Arriving at Brisbane

If you are fortunate enough to find a cheap flight to Brisbane then you are in for a treat from the minute you arrive at the airport. There are information desks in both the domestic and the international terminals to explain any uncertainties. The city is around 20 to 30 minutes away; at the airport, you will find 6 different car rental companies. If you are not intent on driving, then there are taxi ranks conveniently located either in front of the domestic terminal, or at the north end of arrivals at the international terminal.

Coachtrans are the only licensed operator for bus travel from the airport, with all their vehicles being air-conditioned. There is also the Airtrain, which speeds you through to the city centre every 15 minutes. There is also a free courtesy bus to take you to the airport village shopping-precinct, where there are stores, coffee shops, pubs and a hotel.

Getting Around Brisbane

It is a very clean and extremely pleasant city, so walking around it is a pleasurable way to see the sights, but for the longer journeys, taxis are reliable, as their fares are regulated. Recently a night link bus has been introduced to run throughout the night on Fridays and Saturdays. The fun way to get around when situated in the riverside areas, is the citycat; a fast and efficient boat service, that is the preference of many locals.

Attractions in Brisbane

Having found the airfare to Brisbane, you'll want to make the most of it and see the major sights and many of these are located at the Queens Cultural Centre, adjacent to the South Bank of the Brisbane River. These include the museum, science centre, and the gallery of modern art: the largest modern art gallery in Australia. Kangaroo Point Cliffs are excellent for abseiling, and not to be missed are the miniature Eiffel Tower, the aesthetically pleasing Story Bridge and the cosmopolitan Caxton Street, all of which look great at night. For the more action-seeking visitor, there are the Go-Karts at Kingston Park, or at the other end of the scale the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary.

Shopping, Dining and Night Life in Brisbane

Brisbane flights bring in visitors from all over, and chances are they will head to Queen Street at sometime during their stay for all their shopping needs. Located there, are chic arcades full of hundreds of stores, packed with top brands, plus many impressive restaurants. Eating in Brisbane is a fabulous experience, with different cuisine from French, Chinese or Spanish, to Mexican, plus all the local delicacies. Bretts Wharf on the Brisbane River is one of the most popular, with sea-food as a specialty. The city's night life is very active, with a heavy concentration of pubs, one of the best known being Fridays at Edward Street, where you will also find the Belgian Beer Cafe, with possibly the best beer in the city.
