Arriving in New Delhi

The Indira Gandhi International Airport is situated in West Delhi, approximately 10 miles southwest of the centre of New Delhi. It is the busiest airport in India and has the capacity to cope with 46 million visitors each year, so there should be no shortage of cheap flights to New Delhi. The airport express, which is part of the New Delhi Metro, is a quick, safe and efficient mode of transport in this large city. Buses are another cheap and relatively efficient way of getting from the airport. The Delhi Transport Corporation operates a shuttle service that runs every 30 minutes to connect the airport to the central areas of Delhi.

Getting Around New Delhi

The Delhi Metro, which was opened in 2002, is regarded as Asia's premier rapid transit system. It consists of three lines with around 59 stations. It is probably the fastest means of transport and it is still reasonably priced. The existing bus service is very extensive and is mostly operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation. The buses are hot and crowded, but they are cheap and have a greater coverage of the area than the metro. Taxis are another good and comfortable way to get around with many cabs operating in the city. For the more adventurous, you can also try one of the many rickshaws around which makes a complete contrast to your New Delhi flights.

New Delhi Attractions

There are a myriad of attractions to see in the Delhi region. Loli Gardens is the most beautiful park in the city, an oasis of peace amongst the bustling city. It contains some historic buildings such as the Tomb of Muhammad Shah. Humayun's Tomb is another beautiful place with great architecture, and is well maintained compared to some other historic monuments. It has lush green gardens surrounding it as well. If you enjoy these kinds of historical and archaeological attractions then the airfare to New Delhi will be a bargain.
