Tianjin Binhai International Airport, the major airport in Tianjin, is located east of the city, in the Dongli District. Take advantage of cheap flights to Tianjin and witness the rapid development of China for yourself in one of the countries major cities and ports. Once landed on your flight to Tianjin, passengers can take the airport buses directly to various parts of the city centre. The journeys will take between 15 to 80 minutes depending on the destination, and a single journey costs 10 RMB. Line 9, Binhai Mass Transit (light railway line) also has a station close to the airport, and a single trip from the airport to the city centre on the Mass Transit takes approximately 15 minutes.
The rapid transit system is probably the most efficient way for tourists to get around the city. Currently, there are two rapid transit systems operating in Tianjin: the Tianjin Metro and the previous mentioned Binhai Mass Transit, with a total of 50 stations and 4 lines. A large number of buses also operate in Tianjin, with routes to all parts of the city, but travelling on them might be slightly difficult for non-Chinese speaking tourists as it is hard to know where to get off. Taxis are a more costly option, but comfort comes with a price. You can always use the money you have saved with the low airfare to Tianjin.
Being both a modern metropolis and an ancient town with huge significance in the history of China, Tianjin is described as a dual core city: a combination of the old and the new. The Old City has traditional Chinese architecture, with a museum commemorating the Boxer Rebellion, and an Ancient Culture Street, where Tianjin's most unique type of performing art, Xiangsheng, is showcased. The Binhai New Area, where Tianjin flights arrive, is a new growth part of China. The Tianjin Eye, the world's only Ferris wheel built on a bridge, is located above the Hai River, which separates the two regions of the city.
Due to Tianjin's proximity to the sea, its cuisine is heavily focused on seafood. Traditional snacks that Tianjin is famous for includes Goubuli, a unique type of steamed bun with filling, and Erduoyan, traditional fried rice cake. For those who want to bring home a piece of Chinese culture, the Shenyang Dao Antiques Market is definitely worth a visit, for it is the largest antique market in China. Tianjin's special art forms such as Jingyun Dagu and Tianjin Kuaiban are also being performed in major theatres throughout the city at night.
