To truly experience this Spanish-influenced city, don't leave without visiting the Monumento a los Heroes de la Restauracion. Also known as the El Monumento, this historic place is located on the city's highest hill. Most of the nightlife in Santiago is located in this area. Don't forget to visit the Gran Teatro Cibao, the Museo Folklorico Tomas Morel, the La Catedral de San Santiago, and the Ruinas del Viejo as well. In addition, enjoy the art galleries, multimedia services and audiovisual presentations at the Centro Leon. Centro Leon displays elements of the Dominican culture, the Caribbean culture and the native Indian evolution.
Visit the Calle del Sol, the shopping street of the city, filled with gift shops, restaurants and bars. This area is best for those who love to shop for bargains. If you have more money to spend, head to any of the three big shopping centers: Bella Terra Mall, Colinas Mall, and Plaza Internacional.
Restaurants abound in the city as well. Some of the best places to eat include Super Rico Restaurant, Satay, Mariso Centro, Pizzarelli, Algo Mexicano, and Strong Burger. For nightlife, simply visit one of the many bars along El Monumento. It is also fun to try out other bars you find along the way.
