Weekend Getaways from Colorado City

Featured getaway: Amarillo, Texas

Amarillo, Texas
Amarillo is the perfect place to get a big taste of Texas, even if you can only stay for a short time. From canyons to old Cadillacs and gigantic steaks to grand scenery, the city is an Old West enthusiast's dream. One of the country's best collections of Western art and artefacts can be found at the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum. Mosey on over to the Amarillo Livestock Auction to mingle with real cowboys as they go about the business of buying and selling cattle. For those with more modern interests, the city boasts a great art museum and beautiful botanical gardens. If you're travelling with children, don't miss the thrilling rides at Wonderland Park. The whole family will be awed by the fantastic rock formations at Palo Duro Canyon State Park.

Previous Featured Getaway: Dallas, Texas
J.R. may be gone but Dallas is alive and well. Like most major urban hubs, the city boasts an array of interesting attractions and activities. But in Dallas, as in most of Texas, they are somehow bigger and better. Visit the massive Dallas Art Museum to view permanent collections of African, European and American art or special exhibitions. The city is also big on children's attractions, making it a popular destination for families. Spend the morning at the zoo and then head over to the Aquarium for a marine life extravaganza. History buffs won't want to miss the Sixth Floor Museum, an exhibition pertaining to the life and assassination of John F. Kennedy. Nature enthusiasts can go for a cycle or hike through White Rock Lake Park. Like most world-class cities, Dallas offers a range of accommodation from grand historic hotels to budget accommodations. The city's restaurants may differ in price and cuisine, but the portions are always -- you guessed it -- large.  More info
