A return trip to Ecuador

After spending a week in Galapagos on our first trip, we'd spend some more time in Quito the next time we return to Ecuador. Here are some things we didn't have time for on our first visit.

La Mitad del Mundo, this spot is located directly on the equator, so you can stand in both hemishperes at once.
This historic cathedral was built in the 16th century and its impressive architecture makes it one the highlights of the historic district.
3. Spend some time at the Museo de la Ciudad
Housed in another 16th century building, this museum's exhibits detail Quito's history from its settlement through the present.
4. See the birds at Maquipucuna Reserve
Numerous toucans and other colorful, tropical birds live in this nature reserve, as well as a variety of mammals such as bears and anteaters.
5. Spend a realxing day in Guapulo
This historic village's slow pace offers a great retreat from the business of the main city.
Numerous works of contemporary Ecuadorian art are on exhibit here, as well as a unique collection of colonial musical instruments.
7. Take in a memorable final view of the city at El Panecillo
The views from this hill are breathtaking as you look out over that vast city. You can aslo see the great statue of La Virgen.
