  • 1. Tibet
    Tibet, China

I traveled to Lhasa in July of 2006. What a wonderful experience. The most beautiful people in the world in the most amazing yet sad place that I have ever been. Experience Lhasa and the surrounding areas from a true Tibetan standpoint, beware of what you say regarding politics as related to the Chinese vs Tibetan. Understand the history so you can really appreciate the present.

  • 2. Qinghai Tibet Train (Lhasa Express)
Qinghai Tibet Train (Lhasa Express), China, Asia

I would not travel on this train. I traveled next to it the day after it opened. It is run by the Chinese government and is taking people from Beijing to Lhasa for vacations. If one is traveling to TIbet, please consider whom you want your tourism dollars to go to. Read up on the train from a Tibetan standpoint and enjoy the Tibetan people for who they are and not what they are being forced to become.

  • 3. Potala Palace
    Potala Palace, Lhasa, Tibet

Wonderful sight, however it is now a musuem. It is sad in many ways. The book Seven Years in Tibet is a good consideration to read before going. It is very amazing and wonderful, however it is now surrounded by main roads and buses. There were signs for a highrise development next to the palace...how sad

  • 4. Lake Namtso
    Lake Namtso, Damxung County, Tibet

About 3 hours outside of Lhasa. Travel with a Tibetan group. Such a wonderful place! the most spiritual place that I have ever been in my life. The accomodations are very basic but it is so amazing! One must at the least acclimate to the altitude of Lhasa for a week before trying this. AT the pass you are 20,000 feet above sea level....

  • 5. Jokhang Temple and Barkor Market
    Jokhang Temple, Lhasa, Tibet

What a wonderful experience. Visit the early to avoid the tourists. The area around the temple is a great place to pick up wonderful Tibetan pieces and haggle with the proprietors. Never pay full price for an item...usaully a third of what is quoted..Many of the real Tibetan wares are now in India but you can still find great items...One note...if you do have leftovers from dinner carry with you ... you will know who the right person is to give to.....and they are so appreciative!
