Perfect central location just off the Royal Mile, moments away from the castle. not the most exciting hotel, but clean, modern and so handy for sightseeing. And it's just a short walk from the wonderful David Banns vegetarian restaurant.
For sheer decadence this hotel and restaurant can't be beaten. Absolutely stunning and top quality. So if you're splashing out and want a romantic meal or overnight stay, this is the one!
On a clear spring day the views from the castle are fantastic. All the way over to Fife in the North, and down to the Pentland Hills in the South. A great way to get your bearings in the city. Of course it's also a great sight in itself, and a top photo opportunity!
See how the Royals travelled in style at this waterfront attraction, then enjoy the quiet of a stroll along the Water of Leith, or have a drink in one of the beer gardens in the recently regenerated Leith area.
5. Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art
Not just a fantastic gallery - it also has a brilliant outdoor land-sculpture. It's an excellent place for lying around in the warm sun and discussing everything you've seen. Then take a walk down to Stockbridge for a look round the boutique shops or a coffee and cake at the tables outside Peckhams deli.
