September - it's all about flowers. A month of fun, frivolity, entertainment, based around Commonwealth Park by the lake. Free entry - what more could you wish for
The nation's premier gallery for contemporary art. A smorgasbord of exhibitions over Spring 2006 ranging from paperworks by James Rosenquist to photmedia by Michael Riley and including a special conservation exhibition for children. Check out the website www.nga.gov.au. A fabulous location by the lake.
You probably didn't realise plants could be so interesting. The "gardens" as we call them locally display a huge range of native plants (no exotics here) in a bushland setting. Take a walk or take coffee (or a meal) at the excellent cafe. Open 7 days.
Such fun, such excitement. If you have children, this is the place for them! Seven galleries filled with hands-on science fun and regular presentations as well. In the Parliamentary triangle next to the lake.
Not to glorify war, this is a museum of Australian's responses to the wars we have been involved in. A moving experience especially the tomb of the unknown soldier. The family history section means you can trace your relatives involved in the forces.

A beautiful hotel in the spirit of the 1930s. Try afternoon tea if you are not staying here.
7. Gus's cafe
A Canberra institution and a great place to take breakfast or lunch or dinner - laid back casual dining. Bunda St Canberra city.
8. The Cotter
A location beloved by locals - a picnic spot by the Cotter Reservoir with new bush walking trails. Take a drive out to the Cotter and see what we mean.
