Things you absolutely MUST do in Vegas

  • 1. Papillon Grand Canyon Helicopters
Papillon Grand Canyon Helicopters, Boulder City, Nevada

Booked a tour to the Grand Canyon with Papillon about a week before arriving in Vegas. The driver picked me up at the Excalibur @ 5:20 a.m. and drove everyone to Boulder City Airport. A small airplane flew us to the Grand Canyon, which took about an hour. Wonderful scenery! Then I hopped aboard a helicopter and flew over the canyon. More fantastic views! Hopped back on a bus, which took me to two vantage points at the South Rim of the park. I only wish the tour lasted longer so I could see more. Papillon staff were very professional and I had no complaints or problems. It was a terrific experience!

  • 2. Lion Pen @ MGM Grand Hotel and Casino
MGM Grand Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada

    Avg price: $269

If you're a cat lover, be sure to check out the lion pen on the first floor of MGM Grand. You can get a close-up view of the lions - adults and babies - every day, and they rotate the cats, so each day there will be different ones on view. You can also get your photo taken with a baby lion cub for $25. I believe that's available between 11-12 a.m. and 2-3 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Be there a half-hour beforehand to guarantee your place in line.

  • 3. Zumanity - Cirque du Soleil
Zumanity - Cirque du Soleil, Las Vegas, Nevada

FABULOUS! I can't gush enough about this slightly naughty, definitely adult, R-rated show. It was erotic, very amusing and above all, highly entertaining. I'm still amazed by the girl with the hula hoops! The drinks - esp. the silk panty - are delicious, too. Treat yourself!

  • 4. Star Trek: The Experience

Yes, I am a certified dork, but I loved every minute I spent at the Star Trek Experience! If you're a true ST fan, do not leave here without having your photo taken on the bridge of the Enterprise and in the Borg chamber. Even better, you have the option of dressing up in a ST:TNG costume. Embrace your inner geek! Both the Borg and Klingon Experiences were fun, but I preferred the Klingon.

  • 5. Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition
    http://www.tropicanalv.com/ent_titanic.asp

The Titanic Exhibit includes 300 authentic Titanic artifacts, a fully constructed replica of the Titanic's famed Grand Staircase and Promenade Deck. Within the Promenade, visitors can actually feel the weather conditions experienced by passengers on the fateful night of the Titanic. I was thrilled to be standing on the staircase (don't miss the chance to have your photo taken there), and humbled by the personal belongings pulled from the ocean floor (including shoes, purses, etc.). Be sure to touch the "iceberg," too!

  • 6. Gondola Ride @ Venetian Resort Hotel Casino
Venetian Resort Hotel Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada
    Show Prices
    Avg price: $376

This is certainly a LOT cheaper than riding a gondola in Venice, but it's also a lot shorter and the view is rather limited. We chose the outdoor ride as opposed to the indoor one, which basically is just a glorified mall.
