New York City's best food

22 May 2007  The best part of a vacation for me is the food
3.5 of 5 stars based on 3 votes

I've been to NYC several times and there are some places I have to eat every single time I go.

  • 1. Magnolia Bakery
Magnolia Bakery, New York City, New York

Despite a few bad reviews, this bakery really has the best cupcakes in the world.

  • 2. Lombardi's
Lombardi's Pizza, New York City, New York

America's first pizzaria still serves some of the best pizza I've ever had. Get the margherita. Classic.

  • 3. Rare
Rare Chelsea, New York City, New York

Get the french fry sampler basket. There's plenty for two or even four people to share if you get burgers too. My favorites are the sweet potato fries with the maple dipping sauce. Heavenly.

  • 4. Serendipity 3
Serendipity 3, New York City, New York

Terrible horrible service, but the Frrrozen Hot Chocolate is worth the wait and the cranky people. On a normal day the wait is more than an hour. Go down the street to Dylan's Candy Bar or to Bloomingdales which is just another block away. However, if you buy the packet from the gift shop you can take it home and make your own. It's cheaper, tastes the same and you don't have to deal with the grumps who work there.

  • 5. Peanut Butter & Co
Peanut Butter & Co, New York City, New York

Everything is peanut butter! You can even get a boxed lunch just like Mom used to make. Lots of fun. Totally brings you back to childhood. Don't go right at lunch time though as this place is right near NYU.

  • 6. Ciao Bella

This little gelato place is on the dining concourse at Grand Central Terminal. If you sit downstairs, it almost feels like you're on a train or in a station from another era. I take mine upstairs because I don't think there's a grander place on earth than the main concourse at Grand Central.

  • 7. Tavern on the Green

It's expensive. If you want to sit outside, you have to have a reservation, but I'd suggest making one. Inside is nice, a little crowded, tables are close, but despite reviews, the food IS good, and if you sit outside, the experience is just exquisite.
