Backpacking on the Cheap in the Turkish Aegean Coast
bkpkerturkey
My inspiration was the Turkish Aegean Coastline. I was fortunate to see the seascapes by land and sea when I traveled by coach to Marmaris from Bodrum and returning via Kos Gr. to Bodrum and finally to Kusadasi Tr.These coach buses are not your average bus. They are highly comfort chairs with lots of leg and hip room. Window coverings if your staying away from the sunlight and they recline. Not enough? Satelite Television throughout your journey and beverage services are free. I cannot tell you how indulgent this is. Esp., after ferry riding for 2or4 days. Now You can get ferry next day (must pay day before to Rhoads). Rhoads has a fantanstic shops (take this advise) on other side of port, ask at port authority and they will show you where at entry/exit will get you ferry tickets to Kos or Patmos. On return to Turkey, this is when it gets cheap again- Patmos to Kos 13euro and Kos u can by Bodrum ferry ticket at Travel shop by McDonalds for 25euro. On my next travel to Patmos I have found out that Via Bodrum is the perfect way to connect with daily excursions. Bus lines (I suggest Pammukle or Aydin) and in Bodrum it is 200 meters east of the ferry docks. If you hurry by walking or taxi, you may make resv on bus there. But I have stayed at the Kalendar Hotel in Bodrum and the owners are everything your would expect. They are a lovely traditional family who will meet all your needs and have internet use. And we're still on the cheap! Have Fun, please let us know your experiences.

My experience with Kusadasi has been exciting. I stayed a few weeks at the Pamay and 2 weeks at the budget Pamorama Hotel. At the Pamay it was way cool and the swimming pool inviting. But I wanted to be down by the ships and the port. So I moved to the Panorama, 50meters from the harbor. And Whoa, what beauty and affordable my resv was, especially looking down over the ships and shops. My room was 14 lira per night, well it was during the low season of June and I had a room with a view. Upstairs in the restaurant you are practicly over the harbor and its beautiful at night. No swimming pool, but ahh, nice beaches and very cheap to rent a lounge w/cushion. Starbucks too, just around the corner of the harbor. Sooo, this place can meet any needs, offer blue cruise excursions or even get you off to the bus for ferry hopping. They even have little excursions to Ephesus or Mary's House for travel on the cheap! Cannot wait to get back.

| Port city where ferry destinations to Greece can be purchased. Beautiful harbor nights with the Castle lit by the sea. How about Starbucks in the morning. And many, many shops. European Outlets are easily to get to by mini-bus towards Soke and south of Kusadasi. 5 minutes south of Kusadasi. Ask bus driver. |
