Best place to shop on the island- especially for diamonds and knock-off purses. Get there early for good free parking or you will be walking, walking, walking. Paid parking is very reasonable. If you don't want to be hassled in the stores, go when the cruise ships dock- they are so busy you can browse in peace. Never buy for the list price and shop around!
Get there before 8:30 for a good seat for the show. If you don't want a lap dance from the large "woman" avoid the front table. Street show starts at 9:00 om nightly- bar seats give the best view for both. Great place for kids- friendly and fun.
Best restaurants on the island. Le California is wonderful! (tip here not included). Le tastevin is okay. Check menu wherever you go to see whether the tip is included- it usually is. For the lolos- Talk of the Town has excellent ribs, chicken and shrimp. Extremely reasonable! Stay to watch the boat races.
4. Atlantis Casino, Sint Maarten
Sign up for the member card as soon as you get there- it's free and only requires a driver's license. It gets you either $10 at the tables or at the machines. You match it with $10 of your own- so essentially free $10.
Bring a swimfloat and just float around all day- no waves whatsoever. Almost completely private and right next to Orient Beach if you decide you want to do some sporting. Great for kids! Avoid it on Sunday as the locals set up for the whole day and you'll never get a spot much less peace. Make Sunday a pool day because nothing is open.
Go wednesday for the West Indies market. It was ridiculously hot the day I went but still worth it. Go early for good parking and stop by a cafe for a croissant and cafe au lait. Order in French or English. Great place to get a painted print. Heard La Vie en Rose is a great place to eat but did not go myself.
7. The Boathouse Restaurant
Great place to eat in Simpson Bay. Good prices and exceptional quality- great view. The Pasta Cafe is alright too. TIp is included. Make sure you always check the menu for this. If it's not there- don't be afraid to ask.
Great restaurant! It was closed on this visit - will open in July- but what a great place! Really authentic, really yummy. Don't miss out- in Simpson Bay.
