As more airlines introduce non-reclining seats for short haul flights, would you prefer the recline functionality to be removed from all economy class short haul flights?

Best Budapest Nightlife

18 Jul 2007  I've stumbled out of each and every one...
4.0 of 5 stars based on 3 votes

Here are my top options for nightlife - whether you want to dance, sing, catch a rock show, or just chill

  • Category: Best of
  • Traveler type: Repeat visitors
  • Appeals to: Business travellers , Singles, Students, Budget travellers , Tourists
  • Seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall
  • 1. Pesti Est

Don't take my word for it, use Pesti Est, the free local nightlife guide, to find exactly what you are looking for. It contains a listing of all the different bands and DJs playing.
Unfortunately, it's all in hungarian, but you can usually figure out times, addresses and key words like "jazz" "DJ" and "karaoke"

  • 2. Wigwam Rock Club

magyaROCK! See live, local up-and-comers on the hungarian rock scene

  • 3. SoHo London

A great place for drinking and dancing. The upstairs is a cafe, while the downstairs boasts a pretty good size dance floor, lots of seating and along bar. Some nights, there's a live act, others a DJ.
For a while, this was pretty popular with US and Canadian expats.

  • 4. Aloe Cafe

The waiters and bar staff are surly, the jukebox has a minimal selection and is usually trumped by what the bartender wants to hear on the radio anyway, and the decor is like technicolor Victorian. But the drinks are the cheapest in all of Budapest and there's a comfortable couch and chairs if you can claim them early in the evening.

  • 5. Szilvuple

Many dance clubs in Budapest are playing pretty much the same set list, not Silvuple. They have much more eclectic and unusual influences.

  • 6. Crazy Cafe

Crazy Cafe karaoke is the best! Good selection of english and hungarian with an enthusiastic crowd.

  • 7. Alcatraz Club and Restaurant

Alcatraz is a great club that usually has both a live act a a DJ set each night. The bands can range from rock to pop to swing to you-name-it. The DJ usually spins Euro Top 40 and all-time faves.
The scene is good - mostly young professionals and some expats. The food's not bad as well, if you want to come early and enjoy it. The themed decor is a little cheesy, but don't let that bother you.

  • 8. Morrison's Music Pub

More karaoke and more great dancing. There's often no cover charge for ladies here and it's heavily frequented by stag parties and other tourists. Still, it's a good time, especially when the train zips around the ceiling.

  • 9. Zold Pardon

Outdoor dancing in two areas with two styles of music, video screens, island bars and more. The crowd does tend to be on the young side, though.

  • 10. West Balkan

A great place to chill, drink or dance. The club has both outdoor and indoor sections, depending on your mood. This started as a squatters club in an abandoned garden building, but now seems to be quite permanent.

  • 11. Outside on Liszt Ter or Raday Utca

See and be seen while sipping overpriced fancy drinks and nouveau cuisine. A very pleasant way to spend and afternoon or evening.

  • 12. Night Bus Service

The best way to get home after a night of fun is to use the Night Bus service. Buses replace the metro lines, as well as major tram and day bus routes. Make sure you have a valid ticket or pass, as the BKV loves to bust people on these routes.
