    Adolphus Hotel, Dallas, Texas

    Avg price: $208

Built by the brewing magnate, Adolphus Busch, this downtown hotel has wonderful historic architecture, a magnificent lobby with a great high tea service, spacious and unique rooms, and arguably the best haute cuisine in Dallas (The French Room). Ask the concierge or desk staff if a tour of the penthouse is possible; they'll usually accomodate if it isn't occupied by a high profile guest. Definitely a place to stay or through which to stroll.

  • 2. Cotton Bowl
    Cotton Bowl, Dallas, Texas

The stadium is old, decrepit, and has seen its better days. But don't miss a chance to see one of the best rivalries in college football, Oklahoma-Texas, during the state fair every October.

  • 3. Dallas Museum of Art
Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas, Texas

It's not the Met or the Art Institute of Chicago, but this museum is steadily improving it's diverse collection. Look for an occasional "blockbuster". It's an anchor of the expanding Dallas Arts District

  • 4. Nasher Sculpture Center
    Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas, Texas

It's only the best collection of modern art on the planet. Benefactor Raymond Nasher decided to bequeath his incredible collection to Dallas, but only after considering the Museum of Modern Art in NYC and The Guggenheim in Bilbao, Spain. It is a stunning achievement, and - as a free standing indoor/outdoor sculpture museum - ranks along the Rodin Museum in Paris. My favorite is James Turrell's skyspace sculpture, BLUE, located in the corner of the garden. See it at dusk with someone you love!

  • 5. The Katy Trail

The Katy Trail is a newcomer to Dallas. It is a 5 mile long urban walking trail built on the railbed of the old Missouri-Kansas-Texas railroad and was developed by the federal "Rails to Trails" program in conjunction with local philanthropy. It winds from the southern edge of Highland Park - an upscale, intown suburb - to the new Victory area of downtown (adjacent to the American Airlines Center and the W Hotel). Along the way, you'll pass upscale urban neighborhoods, Turtle Creek with new residential highrises, and the youthful chic of Uptown. Various access points allow the walker ingress and egress to explore adjacent neighborhoods or simply get a refreshment at a sidewalk cafe or bar. It is a work in progress but truly on it's way to being a magnificent urban greenscape. Enjoy a stroll or get in a great workout!!
