Free and fun things to do in the Pensacola area
Take at least 4 hours to tour this fantastic place. Kids can climb, sit and "fly" a variety of aircraft. Tour a WW2 city street, fly in a flight simulator and see an Imax movie. Movie and flight simulator cost but everything else is free. If you are there in season (April/May) you may be able to watch the Blue Angels perform behind the museum.
A smaller version of the Vietnam Wall in DC. Other military memorials in same park and Missing Children's Memorial across the street on the bay. Free. Moving.
Costs a dollar per car to cross the toll bridge but there is free parking right up to the beach. On the weekend close to the 4th of July (check each year) you can watch the Blue Angels perform over the beach. Bathrooms and concession available. No dogs. Coolers ok.
There are more than a few pelican statues in and around downtown Pensqacola. They are unique and cute...Peli-kini is a pelican in a bikini, Start your search at the corner of Palafox and Garden streets. Mosey south along Palafox for a activity for families.
Bring your lawn chair and a picnic and enjoy a free concert in the park on Thursday evenings all summer long.
All summer you can enjoy a free outdoor evening band concert and dancing if you wish.
The weekend AFTER July 4th, the Blues do a full show above Pensacola Beach. If you haven't experienced it, you are missing an awesome show. The beach is crammed with people so if you want to find a parking space plan to arrive no later than 8 am with your cooler, umbrella and sunscreen. The show starts about noon with warm-up flight demonstrations. You won't be bored while you wait because there are all sorts of exhibits and free activities. Of course, you are on the beach so you can play in the water.
In November, the Blue's perform their Homecomming show at the Naval Air station. This show is also free and there is even a night show.
