1. 84 diner Fishkill,NY
| Meh. it's a diner. Fast, decent food at a reasonable price. |
2. Amore Pizza Pleasant Valley, NY
| Excellent food, excellent prices. Great service. Everything I've gotten has been good - garlic knots, pizza, chicken parm. The sauce is excellent. Definitely hit this place. It's behind CVS |
3. Arlington Diner Poughkeepsie, NY
| Typical diner. Service and food are average. |
4. Aroma Osteria Poughkeepsie, NY
| Italian restaurant. Hit or miss with the food. Expensive. Lovely restaurant and grounds. Attentive waitstaff. Stay away from the bruschetta, but DEFINITELY try the calamari. The breading was light but seasoned. Best I've had! |
5. Beekman Diner Beekman, NY
| Large diner. Good service, food is always good. Usually doesn't sit well with me. Not sure what that's about. Basic place if you're out of other places to go. |
6. Blue Fountain Hopewell Junction,NY
| Italian. Excellent food, owner on site. Excellent staff. Definitely a winner. There were many Italian-Americans eating there, as well as some from the old country. |
7. Cafe Maya and Cantina Fishkill, NY
| The food was more like a real taqueria than most. Good spices, good service. Excellently strong drinks. |
8. Charlotte's Restaurant Millbrook, NY
| Overpriced, terrible food, bad service. Run from it. (My sister-in-law called there to ask what their food was like. She wondered if it was Italian or whatever. Their answer was 'It's gotten better'. Nice) |
9. China Wall Pleasant Valley, NY
| Run away! The food was... not so good. The family cooking was not Chinese, they were Laotian. The outside of the rest. smelled like foul garbage. |
10. CJ's Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria Rhinebeck,NY
| This is a nice, quiet little place. The sauce is average to below average. Food is average, service is good. |
11. Copperfield's Restaurant
| Ecclectic restaurant in Millbrook, NY Very good food, service is better early in the evening. Excellent prices. Owner often present. |
12. Coyote Grill Poughkeepsie,NY
| A lot of younger people serving at lunch-time. Lot of personal chatter between them, which I don't like. Talk to the customers, not each other. Food choices are good. A lot of gourmet salad choices. Food doesn't agree with my delicate stomach, which says they use a lot of oils and grease in their cooking. |
13. Daily Planet Lagrange, NY
| Diner. Slightly pricey for a diner. Good service. Food is hit or miss. Somethings are good, some are not. Most of the appetizers are NOT. Southwestern egg rolls are terrible, calamari is ok... I stick to wraps or the stir fry pasta dish. Diner is cute. |
14. Darby O'Gills Hyde Park, NY
| Bar-Grill. (Emphasis on Bar) There are like 4 booths to sit in to eat. Basic bar-food. Mostly fried. Burgers are excellent though and very big. Good drinks. Have a blast eating majorly fattening food and sucking booze out of a fish-bowl. But don't make a habit of it! |
15. Dervin O'Brien's Pub Millbrook, NY
| This is primarily a pub with a great pub atmosphere. If you want to hang out and watch some sports, this is your place. You can let your hair down and be yourself. The dining area is small with a small menu. Good service, but the food is so-so. The pan seared sea scallop ceasar salad is good. The fish and chips leaves much to be desired. Owner is often on site. |
16. Double O Grill Fishkill and Rhinebeck
| These started out well, and have gone WAY downhill. The one in Fishkill is better than in Rhinebeck. The service, atmosphere and food are all better. But still not good. Skip this one. |
17. The Dubliner Poughkeepsie, NY
| Irish Pub. Lovely furniture, nice atmosphere. Food was okay. I ordered the shepard's pie. There was a thick layer of cheese on top that I peeled off. Meat wasn't very seasoned but it was ok. I've had Guiness that tasted more fresh. Give it a try. |
18. El Rancho Saugerties, NY
| Ok, so it's not in Dutchess County, but it's worth a mention. Good, authentic food. Good service and atmosphere. Try a tequila rose shot to complete your meal. Worth the drive! |
19. Fireside Inn Clinton Corners, NY
| A little pricey. Owner on site. Food has improved lately. worth a try. Nice fireplace in the winter, but don't sit too close- you'll bake! |
20. Four Brothers Pizza Pleasant Valley, NY
| There is a small chain of these in Dutchess County. Some of the best pizza I've ever eaten. My fav is the Brothers Special Pizza. I dont like their spaghetti sauce, and the meatballs... are they meat? Strange consistency. Go and have pizza! No free refills on soda - beware! |
21. Foster's Coach House Rhinebeck,NY
| Good food, great atmosphere. Does get crowded. Closes for a week in August and usually in February. Owner on site. hamburger are small, but filling. Sauce is below average. Their best menu item is the london broil. I think this one is worth a try! |
22. Gentleman Jim's Poughkeepsie, NY
| Bar and restaurant. Good service most nights. The salad bar is excellent, offering shrimp cocktail and very fresh veggies! Calamari is good. I am never truly happy with the meals. Spaghetti sauce is not good, chicken dishes are watery. Go for salad bar and appetizers. |
23. Gilded Otter New Paltz, NY
| Brewery. Their micro-brews are pretty good. They've won a bunch of awards and stuff. The food is excellent as are the service and atmosphere. This is a winner in New Paltz! |
24. Goodfella's Inn Hopewell Junction, NY
| Bar and grill type place. Relaxed atmosphere, pretty good food. Give it a try. |
25. Gracie's Cafe Lagrangeville,NY
| This is in the A&P plaza in Arthursburg. The time we went there they were short staffed, but the waitress worked really hard to please everyone. Food was below average. New owners now- haven't been since it changed hands. |
26. Agra Tandoori Rhinebeck, NY
| The BEST Indian food in Dutchess County. The restaurant looks kind of scary from the outside, which stopped us from going for a while. But the inside it really nice! The walls are covered in velvet with beautiful colors. The food is good, and the prices are reasonable. Not downtown Rhinebeck, but head south on 9 towards Hyde Park. Absolutely worth it!! |
27. Happy Days Cafe Millbrook, NY
| Cute little nostalgic diner. They do make a thick malt. Meals are average. |
28. Happy Wok Lagrangeville, NY
| Also in the A&P plaza there. Ok food but it comes in these great tupperware type dishes that I reuse! |
29. Hobnobbin Pub Poughkeepsie,NY
| This is an excellent bar and grill! The burgers are worth ruining your diet for! The seasoned fries are great. Service is great. Desserts are 'lick-the-plate' good! Someone stopped over to check on us, not sure if it was the owner or a manager. Definitely a must eat!! (The Hobnobbin North in Hyde Park is closed) |
30. Hyde Park Brewing Company Hyde Park,NY
| Brewery. Good micro-brews. Especially the blonde. Food is pretty good, atmosphere is good. Dining area is small, though. Good location. |
31. Il Compare Wingdale,NY
| One of my favorites! Italian at it's finest! Sauce is excellent. They will make to order. They offer whole wheat pastas. Atmosphere is a little more relaxed than I would prefer, since we are often seated at the bar area... Owner on site. A definite! |
32. J and J Pizzatown Fishkill,NY
| If you need a slice, this is one of the two places I would highly recommend in the Hudson Valley! The slices are large, the sauce is excellent and not too thick. Nice guys. |
33. La Puerta Azul Millbrook, NY
| Mexican restaurant. Expensive. Recently had a birthday party here. They went way out of their way to make sure we had a great time. This service will keep me going back time and time again. They obviously care about their customers. |
34. Les Baux Millbrook, NY
| French Restaurant. Highly recommend the mussels. Pork tederloin was nothing spectacular. Service was not good. Teenagers. Would have liked a more traditional french atmosphere. |
35. Millbrook Cafe Millbrook, NY
| Small menu, owners on site. Very lovely Hungarian family. They have a super small chocolate fondue dessert cart. Food is good, price is fairly reasonable. |
36. Millbrook Diner Millbrook, NY
| Typical old fashioned diner. It's really cute! Owner has been MIA lately, altho he used to be there a lot. Nice waitstaff (mostly) good food. |
37. Stockyard Hopewell Junction,Ny
| Excellent restaurant. Great atmosphere, great service, great food! Their apple butter is very good, altho sometimes it's fresh and sometimes it's frozen. You can taste the difference. They serve soup family style in a kettle at your table. Highly recommend this restaurant. Try the chicken christine. |
38. Tailgaters Beekman, NY
| Trying to be a sports bar type place. Great service, so-so to poor food. Good Guiness. Go for a drink, not for dinner. |
39. Tango Argentinean Steak House Millbrook, NY
| New restaurant, food not very good, service sloppy, no liquor license "yet". Hopefully they will improve with time, but for now I'd skip it. |
40. Via Nove Fishkill, NY
| Italian. Excellent food, great service, great atmosphere! Food is a little on the greasy side (prob why it tastes so good!) Huge wine list. Bar is very "metro chic". Highly recommend. |
41. Kebab Palace Poughkeepsie, NY
| Indian Buffet in a plaza (near Toys R Us). Pretty good food. The chicken was a bit fatty for my taste. Very nice people. |
42. Kelly's Steak and Spirits Lagrangeville,NY
| To be fair, we've only eaten here once. Normally I give a place two tries before I give an opinion. This place was... empty. They didn't have the steak I wanted. Food was alright. |
43. Lenahan and Lopez Red Hook,NY
| Ok, Irish and Mexican?? It's mostly mexican. The food is hit or miss. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's not good at all. Take your chances here. |
44. Mahoney's Irish Pub Poughkeepsie,NY
| Atmosphere caters to a young crowd. Nights are usually quite full of partiers. They often have bands, DJ's, contests etc. Food was not very good either time I ate there. I had (what else?) shepard's pie. It was less than average. Guiness is flowing. Owners are imported from Ireland, so I think the food should be better... maybe that's why they put so much emphasis on the party crowd. |
45. Mariner's Harbor Kingston, NY
| Excellent food, service, atmosphere. This place has it all! Ok, bad view of the Harbor, but that's ok. Very large dining areas, two bars... will definitely return! |
46. Mariner's Landing Highland, NY
| The exact opposite of Mariner's Harbor! Ok, not quite. They also have a large dining area and two bars... and a great view of the river. But the food is TERRIBLE. I would never eat there again. |
47. Coco's Pizzeria Hyde Park, NY
| Large menu, large dining area. We call it the "Cheese" restaurant. They smother EVERY entree in cheese. Every sandwich, wrap, pasta dish, EVERYTHING. You can pull out 4-5 oz of cheese and still have cheese in your food. (and we have!) We don't go here anymore. Something about cardiac arrest... The desserts are yucky too. The chocolate is not real chocolate. I don't know what it is, but I'm a choco-holic, and I know chocolate! Run from it. |
48. McGillicuddy's New Paltz, NY
| Ok, another Ulster County. I lived in New Paltz for a while, so they'll creep in there. This place used to be great. Good bar-grill atmosphere. But the food has gone wayyyy south. Yuck. Steer clear. |
49. PC's Paddock Poughkeepsie,NY
| Cute little (very little) place. Good food, limited menu. Good for sandwiches and such. Nice waitstaff. |
50. Pete's Famous Hyde Park, NY
| I enjoy their breakfast foods, but not lunch or dinner. Good pancakes. Nice waitstaff. We go nice and early to avoid crowds, but I hear they get packed, especially on Sunday mornings! |
51. Pine Cone's Millbrook, NY
| They tried to open as a pizza place. The sauce is yucky. Best to leave this one alone. Recently gave it another try. Barely any sauce on the pizza which was an improvement! I will be ordering from them again. |
52. Red Hook Curry House
| Great Indian food. (Not the best around, mind you, but great!) Very spicey dishes, runs right through you. Bathrooms are scary but working. Nice people. |
53. Rhinebeck Cantina and Gill Rhinebeck,NY
| Good mexican place. Salsa is good. Pricey, but it's Rhinebeck so expect nothing less. |
54. Santa Fe Restaurant Tivloi,NY
| Another out of the way mention. Heard it was great, had to try it. It was pretty good. I don't know if it's good enough to drive out of your way, though. Try it yourself and email me your thoughts! |
55. Sinapi's Restuarant Hopewell Juntion,NY
| They try to make themselves appear fancy, but it's just a diner. With bad food. |
| I was really looking forward to this one, as I love good italian sauce! I was pretty disappointed. The service was slightly below average. The sauce was good, but something about the spaghetti made it taste odd. The chicken in the chicken parm was very good and very large. The calamari was very greasy and heavy. They served garlic bread that was very good. They had a musician in the other room, and continued to pipe radio music into our room so we had a cacophony of music sounds. I will not be returning. |
57. Millbrook Carriage House Millbrook, NY
| Ecclectic new restaurant in Millbrook. They took over Marcello's. We were given a small crab cake sample which was good but greasy. I found a few menu items I would have liked to enjoy. The wine list was unimpressive, so we went kischy and ordered a wine featured from Francis Ford Coppola. I had chicken dorian or something like that. The chicken was over cooked, and had an odd sweet taste to it. It had a mashed potato with blue cheese that had been deep fried. I didn't eat much. My husband had shrimp parm that was odd. The shrimp was tasteless. We did not take over left overs home. I won't try that again. Although, the catering director came over a few times to check on us, and greeted each guest as they entered. That was a nice touch. |
58. Pleasant Valley Restaurant Pleasant Valley, NY
| Diner. Food is average. Thai chicken wrap is unexpected but good. Waitstaff is nice. |
59. Shadow's on the Hudson Poughkeepsie,NY
| Cool atmosphere, oddly laid out. Food was good, but pricey. This is a try it once and then enjoy the memories. oh, and make reservations or get there early!! Apparently, they are also impressed with their bartenders. Something about cucumber martini's... |
60. Spanky's Poughkeepsie,NY
| Creole cooking. I've been there twice. I loved it the first time, but the second time I wasn't thrilled. Small dining areas, even smaller parking lot. Try it once for fun, then go somewhere larger. I felt squished. |
61. Terrapin Restaurant Rhinebeck, NY
| Mucho expensive! One of the most expensive restaurants we've been to. Ever. Apparently celebs like this one. The food choices were limited (they call it 'exclusive') everything is seperate (no salad with your meal). The after dinner "chocolate" was anything but chocolate. It was buttercream or something unexpected and gross! And much to my amazement, the bathroom was ugly. They should have put more thought into this area. Check it out, you'll agree. You just pay $200 for a meal for two, and you'll have seen better bathrooms in a diner! I'd skip it. |
62. Twist Hyde Park, Ny
| This one was recommended to us by Hyde Parkers. Owners on site. I believe they are the chefs. They use locally grown foods, so their menu changes. I had the most amazing tuna steak with mango salsa there! Drinks are fru-fru, expensive and not worth it. Food is awesome! |
63. Lily Logan Wappingers Falls, NY
| Supposedly Irish pub and restaurant. The owner was very nice. Definitely not irish. The shepards pie was just hamburger, peas and mashed potatoes. Blah. Cute pub, very clean. Sandwiches and fries were good. |
64. Castillo Espanol Poughkeepsie, NY
| This is the first Spanish Restaurant I've been to. The restaurant is lovely inside, however cleanliness is not a top priority. The dishes on the table were dirty when we were seated, the ladies room was in a state of disrepair. The food was above average. You really did feel like you were transported to another country. Waitstaff was nice and very accepting that I do not speak Spanish nor was I about to butcher their language. She said aloud each item I pointed at. The Shrimp Ajello was excellent but greasy, I had chicken with chorizo and rice. That was good. The plantains were cut too thick to be good. The flan was average to finish the meal. The big disappointment was the champagne sangria. They didn't let the sangria sit with the fruit so it was bland. I didn't know you could make a bland sangria... I'd say, give it a go. The lighting is excellent at sunset. |
65. Babalu Bob's Cuban Restaurant Fishkill,NY
| My first Cuban restaurant. I found a review from the PoJo before going to see what to order. We ordered everything they did, mostly because I didn't feel like making a lame choice. We ordered a special seafood sampler appetizer which was pretty good. I got Vaca Frita which I thought tasted charred and not very good. It was a large portion, though. My husband got something with shrimp that was good. Our bill was quite high. I wouldn't return. But unlike the PoJo review, our waiter was prompt and nice. |
66. EDO Sushi Incorporated
| Very small restaurant but was packed the entire time we were there. Large menu, full page of sushi and sashimi. I have yet to try these. We got Shu mai for an appetizer which was absolutely amazing! Steamed shrimp dumplings. Yum! Then I messed up and ordered tempura shrimp for dinner because it sounded familiar. Yeah, from the county fair. I was disppointed when a pile of fried foods came out. It was tasty, don't get me wrong. I just try not to eat a lot of fried foods. So halfway through the meal, we switched plates and I got to have chicken teryaki. That was good. The saki was good too. I will return to this restaurant. |
| This is a healthy italian style restaurant. Organic, locally grown foods. I have to admit, I am used to greasy penne bolognase, but I could get used to the healthy alternative quickly. A bit pricey, but give it a try! Cute restaurant with outdoor seating in the summer. Always a lot of customers. |
68. Nonna's Pizza Verbank, NY
| This is another pizza place on the corner of Tompkins Road and Route 82 in Verbank. For some reason, they put up the sign from two pizzerias ago - A Slice of NY. I don't think the two are related, as the pizza is totally different. But their menus say Nonna's. They have potential. The food is pretty decent. BUT, the garlic knots appear to sit out in a bowl all day (this is actually a health hazard because they're not always covered. Mmmm... dusty knots). They don't follow through with menu promises - ie: no sauce given with garlic knots, no celery given with wings... The wings are close - could have more sauce on them and could have stood another 25 seconds in the fryer. Pizza is good. Try it - but don't assume the things listed as being included on the menu will be there when you get home. |
69. Nuddy Irishmen Poughkeepsie, NY
| New pub on Main Street in Poughkeepsie. This is in the Chance Complex. The atmosphere was great - the wait staff was really helpful and friendly. Bathrooms were really nice. Food was plentiful and very good. Good selection of draft beers. I highly recommend this place! We had a group of 8-12 (we had people coming and going) and they handled it effortlessly! |
