Segovia is the perfect day trip from Madrid. Only 45 miles northeast of Madrid, it is full of history and interesting architecture. Its 2000 year old Roman aqueduct, its fairytale castle, and its 14th century cathedral make it one of the must-see cities in Spain.

If you arrive from Madrid by bus or train this is the best place to start your visit to the city as it is very close to the bus and train stations. It is one of the best-preserve Roman monuments in the world. It is near 30 feet high at its highest point and roughly 10 miles long.
2. Walk along Real Street
From the Azoguejo Square take a stroll on Real Street all the way to the Main Square. This is a pedestrian-only street that features a wide variety of shops. It also has an array of monuments and historical buildings to admire along the way.
This is a romantic church from the XIII century. The most important part of the building is the tower, called "The Queen of the Byzantine towers".
The Cathedral is situated in the Main Square. Called the "Dame" of Spanish cathedrals, it is the tallest building in Segovia and a must-see.
Also located in the Main Square is the Church of San Miguel. This is where Isabel was proclaimed Queen of Castilla.
6. Murallas (walls)
After visiting the cathedral, you can walk along the murallas, a limestone wall that surrounded Segovia during the Medieval period
The murallas will take you to the Alcazar. Believed to be the source of inspiration for Walt Disney this fairytale castle is a must-see.
8. Meson de Candido
A visit to Segovia would not be complete without a stop at Meson de Candido for a typical Segovian lunch. Their specialty is roasted suckling pig cut with the edge of a plate.
