  • 1. Gulf Coast Exploreum and IMAX Dome Theater
    http://www.exploreum.com

This science center is fun for everyone. They show IMAX movies on the only dome theater around plus there's traveling exhibits-- the next one is 'Our Body: The Universe Within' and it looks so cool!-- and they have 100s of permanant interactive exhibits like the virtual reality gallery, the digital theater and the hands on hall. You can spend about a half-day there and then grab some lunch downtown or across the bay-- you don't want to miss out on the seafood!

  • 2. Callahan's Irish Social Club

This neighborhood pub is fantastic-- it's been rated on Salon.com as one of the best bars in America. you don't want to miss out on their grouper poboys and one of the best burgers in town. Live music on Sunday nights usually, but come early if you want a seat for the entertainment. Great place to order a couple of beers, sit outside, enjoy the beautiful weather and catch up with friends.

  • 3. The Blind Mule
    http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&frien...

Bar and grill in downtown Mobile has fairly good food and local artwork throughout. Lovely courtyard, almost makes you think you're in New Orleans. But why would that matter-- you're in the lovely Azalea City!

  • 4. NoJa

This restaurant on North Jackson Street (get it? NoJa?) is my favorite place for dinner downtown. It's right off of Dauphin Street. Fantastic service (except for the time the wait person tried to explain that a "small plate" was indeed a small plate of food -- imagine that). Great courtyard. Best martinis in town. Oh, and I almost forgot about the scallops. So yummy. Upscale. Pricey.

  • 5. Mobile Carnival Museum
    Mobile Carnival Museum, Mobile, Alabama

In the home of Mardi Gras, of course there is a museum dedicated entirely to the carnival season. Check out the queen's leather gloves, throw moon pies from a parade float and learn about the history of this pre-Lenten celebration.

  • 6. Battleship Memorial Park
    Battleship USS ALABAMA, Mobile, Alabama

  • 7. Estuarium
Dauphin Island Sea Lab Estuarium, Dauphin Island, Alabama

  • 8. Berney/Fly Bed and Breakfast
Berney Fly Bed and Breakfast, Mobile, Alabama

This is such a jewel in Mobile and we locals never get to enjoy their high level of service-- my parents loved their stay there. For the locals: during the day, you can actually purchase a pool pass for $5. It's a tropical paradise out there with banana trees and ginger lilies. BTW, no kids allowed at the pool, unless you are reserving one of their lovely suites.

  • 9. Bragg Mitchell Mansion
    http://www.azaleacity.com/braggmitchell/index.htm

The epitome of antebellum architecture. Mystery dinner theaters are so much fun at the Bragg!

  • 10. Mobile Museum of Art
Mobile Museum of Art, Mobile, Alabama

  • 11. Museum of Mobile
History Museum of Mobile, Mobile, Alabama

  • 12. Ed's Seafood Shed
    http://www.edsshed.com/

Home of Yo Momma's Platter has the best views on the Bay and the best poboys. and the best cheese grits. and the best greens. Everyone will find something yummy to eat here. The truly adventurous and the true connosieurs can get their fix of raw oysters here too.

  • 13. Saucy-Q Bar B Que
Saucy-Q Bar B Que, Mobile, Alabama

Ever since my first visit, I consistently have insatiable cravings for turnip greens and ribs from this family-run business on Government Street. As far as the sweet tea, you may want to ask for it 'half-and-half' if you don't want a cavity.

  • 14. Mobile Saenger Theater
    http://www.mobilesaenger.com/info.php

Check out the concerts scheduled at "the most beautiful playhouse in all of Dixie".
