Only 50 miles from Boston, this city's cultural strength and historic sites make it a perfect destination for a day trip from Boston. It is also a perfect place to spend a weekend and enjoy its water views, its tree-line streets with historical homes and its interesting shops and great restaurants.

This is a 10-acre historic waterfront museum that features a neighborhood of furnished homes from the late 1600s to the 1950s. Throughout the museum, you'll find costumed role-players as they go about their daily lives and celebrate holiday traditions Strawberry Banke takes you out of the modern era and into another period of time.
Across the street from the Strawbery Banke Museum, this is a perfect place to enjoy the scenic waterfront or to sit on a bench and relax while people-watching.
Portsmouth have many great restaurant. I like this one because of it's location (with its scenic indoor and outdoor waterfront dining) and its great lunch menu. There are certainly restaurants for all tastes in Portsmouth.
This is the heart of Portsmouth. This area offers and array of specialty shops, art galleries, historic buildings and great restaurants.
Located in Market Square, this church can be seen from anywhere in the city.
The museum offers guided tours of this 1950's submarine that served as the prototype for today's modern submarines.
7. Drive through New Castle on the way back to Boston
This is the smallest town in New Hampshire and it is made up entirely of islands. It lies just across a small bridge leading from Portsmouth's historic South End. Some of the oldest homes can be seen here. This is a beautiful scenic drive and a perfect way to end your day trip to New Hampshire.
