Beautiful small hotel in the heart of the Albaicin district with views of the Alhambra from Room 11. Conveniently located near restaurants and bus stop. Upper rooms accessible by lift. Friendly helpful staff and great buffet breakfast.
Take it slowly and see it at different times of day if you can. As we were with 94 year old father and visiting in October we pre-booked tickets for three days and planned specific itinerary according to the weather. First day we borrowed a wheelchair for him at the entrance and visited the wonderful Nasrid Palaces (- be warned, not all areas are accessible by wheelchair.) We took a small hand mirror to enable him to study the ornate ceilings without straining his neck. The audioguide was worth having too.

Second day, we managed without the wheelchair as entrance to Generalife isn't so far from the entrance but you really need to be able to get up and down the steps - and it's definitely a sunny day visit. Our favourite bit was the Patio del Cipres with its arching fountains in the pool.

On the last day when it was pouring with rain, and when just walking with a stick, the marble floor of the Patio de Comares was a bit treacherous so we took the opportunity to visit the museum instead. Later it cleared enough to climb up to the parapets of the Alcazaba.

Disabled toilets are well-signposted but, apart from vending machines, there is nowhere to sit down and have a cup of tea in the complex itself which is a pity.
This maze of narrow cobbled streets and squares in the old Moorish quarter of Granada is a great place to explore on foot. Some of the best restaurants are hidden away in carmens (enclosed gardens with views of the Alhambra). We enjoyed lunch at the Mirador de Morayama, whose famous clients include Bill Clinton and Salman Rushdie. The portions were huge! www.alqueriamorayama.com Tel.958 228290

Further up the hill is the Mirador de San Nicolas with a wide panoramic view of the Alhambra and the valley below. A romantic place to watch the sun set before climbing up to the Plaza Larga for dinner - we ate at the Casa Torcuato on Calle Aqua Tel 958 202039 with its famous tropical house salad followed by imaginative fish dishes such as sole with pistachio sauce.

And near the bottom in the more touristy end of Albaicin is the Calle Caldereria Nueva with its Moroccan teashops and the famous Arrayanes restaurant for couscous and tagines (including vegetarian options) run by its charming and multilingual host, Mustapha. www.rest-arrayanes.com Tel 958 228401

Albaicin restaurant on the Plaza Miguel next to church. Good Italian-influenced menu with interesting home-made pasta dishes among the more standard meat dishes and tapas. Good selection for vegetarians eg grilled wild mushroom starter served with quince jelly followed by fiocetti pasta parcels of gorgonzola in a lime sauce.
5. Pilar Del Toro for tapas
A comfortable and atmospheric place off the Plaza Santa Ana (near the Plaza Nueva) for upmarket raciones including some interesting vegetarian options.
6. Granada Cathedral and Royal Chapel
A bit heavy and overdecorated after the elegance of the Alhambra but an impressive space nonetheless, the Cathedral (entrance in the Gran Via) is worth a visit. The area behind the cathedral is full of lively cafes and boutiques for browsing.
