Romantic Weekend

29 Oct 2007  We need time away without the kids. Galena gives you plenty to do, but is not hectic or rushed.

  • 1. Galena Trolley Tours

Very informative tour and a beautiful drive. Not only do you get to see all of the historic areas of Galena, but they give you a wonderful history.

  • 2. Galena Cellars Winery

Best wine in the world! Wonderful shop in town where you can sample wine. Also, if you go from June through October, go to the actual winery in the country and take the tour.

  • 3. U. S Grants Home Tour
    http://www.granthome.com/

    Tour President U.S. Grants home.

  • 4. Shops on Main Street

You can spend an entire day just strolling down Main Street in Galena and browsing in the shops.

  • 5. Vinny Vanucchis Restaurant
    http://www.vinnyvanucchis.com/

Great Italian food for a great price....not the fanciest place in town, but suits our personality and our wallet better than fancy. Our favorite place to eat every time we are in Galena.

  • 6. GreenBriar Inn
    http://www.greenbriargalena.com/

A cross between a Bed and Breakfast and an Inn. It is less expensive than most B&B's. You get a continental breakfast that you can eat whenever you want. Easy walking distance to town. Not the fanciest or the best, but very clean and a great value in a great location.

  • 7. Much, Much More

There is so much else to do:
Frank O'Dowds Irish Pub (with Irish Dancing & Entertainment on Weekends)
Dubuque - Mississippi River Museum (15 min away)
    Chestnut Mountain Ski Resort
Just driving around the rolling hills around Galena is beautiful - hard to believe you are in Illinois!
