1. Charles Bridge (Karluv Most)
The bridge linking Staré Mesto (old town) to Nove Mesto (new town) is THE monument of Prague. Take time to observe every statue. Go up the tower on the bridge for a nice view. During the day the bridge is croweded: go there early in the morning or late at night to have a chance to "have the bridge on your own". It's worth it
2. Wenceslas Square (Vaclavske namesti) on the Staré Mesto side
The "heart" of Prague. Every hour the Astronomical Clock will strike: observe the Christ and his apostles pass by and the squeleton pull the bell. Very crowdy! Go and visit the gothic town council inside. Visit the Tyn Church. The Pariska street starts from this place, leading to the jewish district. This street reminds alot of a parisian street style Haussmanien. Luxury shops are on that street. Beware of buying souvenirs around that area: real tourist traps!
3. Jewish Quarter (Josefov) on the Staré Mesto side
Visit the Spanish and the Old-New Synagogue (oldest in Prague) The visitor can be surprised by the "few" things there are to be seen but knowing the history a little gives sense to this visit. Men visitors will be given a kippa at the entrancy (obligatory)
Visit also the old cemetery.
4. Powder Tower (Prasna brana, literally Powder Gate) on the Staré Mesto side
The Place of the Republic is (Namesty Republiky) filled with things to see:
- The Powder Tower
- The old Town Hall now a theatre: a Art Nouveau master piece
- The main Post Office: go inside but pictures and filming are forbidden
The big shopping street leads you to the Mucha Museum
For Art Nouveau admirers! Discover the most famous Tcheque artist and his work. Oh, when you come in, don't ask for tickets to the first desk: if you do, the lady sitting there will shout "tickets!" and point with her pencil on the desk behind her and give you a very unpleasant look. The museum is not so obvious to find.
6. Castle District (Hradcany) on the Malà Strana side
Avoid Saturday and Sunday: to crowdy! Take the combined 2 hours tour (250 KC), the other tour being too long. You will then visit: the Saint-Guy cathedral - parts The Royal Palace - The Powder Tour- The Basilic St-Georges - The Golden Alley. Audio guides are availble for extra cost (250 KC): very useful even though some comments are too long and some times you get a little lost.
7. Saint-Nicolas Church on the Malà Strana side
One of the finest examples of a Baroque style church. You'll have to pay the entrance (60 KC) but it's really worth it! A true architectural beauty...
8. Reduta Jazz Club on the Staré Mesto side
A great and famous Jazz Club where Clinton and Havel did a jam session together! Nice to relax and listen to various jazz artist after dinner. About 300 KC for the entrancy. Self service: get your drinks at the bar.
