A list of my 'must go to' restaurants while back in Wellington
List will start off small and I will gradually add to it as time goes on

  • Appeals to: Business travellers , Couples/romantics, Honeymooners, Families with small children, Families with teenagers, Large groups, Seniors, Students, Tourists

  • 1. Kosmos Greek Taverna (Theo's Greek Taverna)
    http://www.kosmosgreektaverna.co.nz/

Award winning Greek Restaurant located at 13 Pirie St Wellington.
Any time I advice someone on Wellington for places to eat this is all ways my first mention. It has great food and great ambiance and is often winning awards. On Friday and Saturday nights there is often traditional greek music and dancing (by the guests, the staff can teach you). You can also have fun breaking plates. And every time I have been they have never forgotten to give us some free Ouzo
Quieter mid-week nights are great if you are not into packed restaurants.
This place is within walking distance of the inner-city, but as it is tucked away off a main street there will be little foot traffic going in. So tourist who stick to the established Courtney Place miss out on one of Wellington's top restaurants.

In short, if you need dinner in Wellington, come here first.

  • 2. Strawberry Fare
    http://www.strawberryfare.co.nz/

Amazing dessert restaurant within walking distance of city centre. This is another of my must visit restaurants. More than just desserts, a small selection of entrees and mains are available, but don't eat too much as you will need plenty of room for Dessert. The desserts are large, served delightfully decorated and are well priced for the quality and amount of food you get.
I have been 10+ times over the years and have never had any issues with the service. Sometime the waitresses may seem rushed during peak Friday and Saturday nights, but this is a large restaurant with many people to feed.
Perfect for families with children of all ages, you often see a few high chairs being used at every visit.

On the weekends they have a special brunch menu. The servings are large, tasty and will easily fill up anyone with a large appetite.

In short, when you want dessert, look no further.

p.s. For chocolate lovers get the "Chocolate Madness" you wont regret it.
p.s.s. If you are visiting for brunch they make an excellent French Toast

  • 3. Syn Bar and Lounge

For the pizza lover this is a great place to come. Though it is a bar and not a restaurant it is a great place for a beer and a great pizza. The pizzas are made by a company called Hell Pizzas which make great fast-food pizza. Though don't get the idea it may be like visiting Pizza Hut or Dominoes. This place is in a league above them. For meat lovers, get the Lust with BBQ sauce.
I have eaten at a few different Hell Pizzas and worked at a couple, this one is one of the best for service. After many trips and hours worked here are my tips:
--Only by a large pizza, the price for the snack (small) pizzas have risen a bit these last couple of years so now the snack size gives you little pizza for a Hefty price.

--Don't bother with the salads, the lettuce is average and the extras are minimal considering the price. Save a salad for a proper restaurant.

--The most popular and in my opinion best sides are the wedges and chicken tenders. You get a generous portion (by NZ standards not American) and they are priced just right.

--don't for get to get a large
