1. Soprano's Italian Pizza & Pasta
You want real Italian/American food then go to Soprano's! This amazing restaurant is located right on the main street (route 9/Canada ) When you walk in, you feel like family. They greet you as if they have known you forever, and will even tell you some of their secret ingredients without having to kill you (mobster humor) On the bak of their menu they have a glossary of mobster terminology that will make anyone laugh and pretend to talk with an italian accent. Watch the guys spin the dough in the air, they defy gravity. Have you ever seen a pretty pizza, or a pretty salad? These guys make food into art, but affordable art. They have anything from subs to wings to pizza to full italian pasta dishes that include salad and bread. I highly recommend trying their chicken pizza, its so pretty you'll want to bring a camera, then devour it! All spices, dressings and sauces are made there, not canned or bottled, and you can tell! This place is not a black tie affair, bring the kids and have great food at affordable on vacation prices. Tell Santa Teresa (Saint Teresa) I said hello!
2. Pizza Jerks
You remember the old Soda Jerks that made the best soda or malt? Well these guys are the Pizza Jerks and they make amazing food. Ok so I'm getting repetitive on italian joints, I'm sorry I am in love! Ask these guys to make you anything on the menu, and its a big deal. They will make it only exactly as you say, down to every topping, how much etc. We recently had the buffalo chicken sub (all subs are $5.75 by the way and they are big) I wanted ranch dressing and tomatoes, lettuce and onion, my fiance wanted just cheese and blue cheese dressing.. both were incredible. Before we left one of the cooks came out and said he was playing with trying new foods and wanted to know if we would take a free sub to try and call him with what we thought! Well we thought "Oh my how will I eat this sub next time, with veggies or without, and how many times can we go there without looking pathetic"? The ambience is very hippie and colorful, exact opposite from Soprano's with their Godfather theme, so after you talk like a mobster, go peaceful and go to Pizza Jerks!
3. Mrs. B's
Mrs. B's is a great little subshop in Lake George just off Canada Street across from Shepards Park. Mrs. B herself is a great reason to go visit, she's so cute you just want to adopt her into your family! She has great help, the older ladies are all adoptable as far as I'm concerned, they just remind you of "Aunt B" and their food does too. Their daily specials are always where I look first, which is everything from a homemade soup, chili,or pasta etc, and is usually a great deal. They aren't big on canned soups and you can tell by the taste. They have a grill area with burgers, Philly Cheesesteaks and plenty of other grill items that are not your Mc. D's mini burgers, but are big and full of flavor. Always worth the visit.. Can you tell I live on subs and italian around here?
4. Leo's Lobster
Along Route 9, just North of Exit 20 Northway and Six Flags Great Escape, or just south of Lake George downtown is Leo's Lobster. Leo himself, the owner, is the main cook and you'll usually see him working around and saying hello. Leo has had a Lobster dinner special, was $15.95 last 2 years hasn't changed that I know of, where else can you go for a lobster dinner for under $20.00 these days? The food is good, the restaurant looks like you're on a ship off of Maine, but inside it's nice, not elegantly upscale but nicer than any fast food restaurant. Worth the trip for good seafood dinners, as well as other entrees. Of course we have a Red Lobster not too far away, but why go to the big chain when you have a nice local place with lobster at 15.95?
