Living in Savannah, GA, mother of one child. I am always thinking of new and fun ways to entertain a toddler. Especially in Savannah's hot, hot summers.
The Jepson Center for the Arts is great for kids. The "Art Zuem" shows kids the appeal of architecture, building, and the fun of identifying art in everyday life. With traveling exhibits and a wonderful cafe for lunch (it is reasonably priced for the area) it is truly a must see. Also a great way to entertain the kids and stay out of the heat!
The Best BBQ in Georgia! They also have kid friendly sides such as mac & cheese (my toddler loves their mac & cheese!)
Oatland Island has a wonderful nature trail and gives young children a chance to see the areas wildlife. Bring lots of bug spray! They also have a pinic area, so bring a lunch and enjoy the beauty of Oatland Island.
Great Southern Food! There is a downside, they are not opened on weekends. If you have a chance to go - go, the food is GREAT!
Fort Jackson is located about 1.5 miles from the Historic District. The Fort is opened for tours and they also do canon firings daily!
The fastest way to get any child to sleep is to simply wear them out! What better way to top off a busy day than to take a Ghost Tour! Take a walking ghost tour through the streets of downtown Savannah! They dress up in period costume and give the tour by candlelight, the tour guides are extremely knowledgeable about Savannah history, so everyone will learn a little history about the city!
What is a better way to beat the heat in the summer than to go to the beach! Tybee Island, Savannah's Beach, is 20 miles from Savannah's Historic District, but is well worth the drive! Bring lots of quarters because the parking meters are in effect 24/7 365 days a year!
Great place to dine for lunch, but the relaxed atmosphere might turn some people off.
The Crab Shack is a great place to get fresh seafood in the area. Also don't forget to feed the cats!
