Stayed 1 night before our Tortuguero adventure. Rooms nice, friendly staff, internet room, exercise room, walkways to rooms open-air with plants everywhere.
After a long flight and checking into our hotel, we had a few hours before dinner and took a taxi to Zoo Ave. Enjoyed walking around the beautiful grounds of this bird zoo, but unfortunately it started pouring. (They do provide umbrelllas for free)

During our 2 night/3 day stay, we took a hike into Tortuguero National Park, a boat tour through the canals, visited the town and went on a turtle egg-laying beach adventure. The hotel is very lovely, the staff is very accomodating, and the tour guide was very knowledgeable. All meals are included and were delicious - you can choose from about 4-6 menu items at each meal.
There are only 12 rooms (each room is a building) - we had 2 for our family. There is a pool, internet, exercise room and pool table. To get to the hotel, it's a 6 hour van/boat ride from San Jose, stopping for breakfast and plantation tour. We chose to fly back on a little plane to save time. Once there, you travel by boat - no roads or cars.

10. Tree House Restaurant, Monteverde
an open-air restaurant with a tree growing in the middle
11. Sky Tram/Sky Trek/Sky Walk Monteverde
We did sky tram, sky trek and sky walk combo. Our tour guide for sky walk was very knowledgeable pointing out birds, wildlife and flowers. We felt very safe with our zipline guides and had a great time.
13. Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve
WE hired a private guide through anywherecostarica.com and we were so happy with his great ability to spot animals and hear birds. He found a Quetzal for us and that made our whole vacation
Dinner was good - but you come for the SUNSET - what a view !
Hired a guide outside the park - really helps to find wildlife. This park is CROWDED... go early.
17. Barba Roja
Great open air restaurant to view the sunset. Had a good seafood dinner
