Numerous TripAdvisor users had asked for my itinerary, so here it is:

  • 2. Egypt Air
    http://www.egyptair.com

Search for one way fare on their website (it's a lot cheaper than going to travel agent, I tried). Keep searching and picking the flight time that gives the cheapest, because it can range from 286.00 EGP (47.82 USD) to 750.00 EGP (138.35 USD) . Buying round-trip isn't any cheaper than buying 2 one-ways.

If time is flexible, better take 1.5 hour flight for $50 than taking train that takes 9 hours from Cairo to Luxor! Although the train costs only $17 first class but $80 sleeper car.
My plan is Cairo to Luxor and Aswan to Cairo. Train from Luxor to Aswan is about 3 hours, but taking a bus is faster and you should stop by Edfu and Kom Ombo on the way.

  • 3. Royal Jordanian Airline
    http://www.rja.com.jo/

Booked Cairo to Amman flight $808 for 2 people. Cheaper than Egyptair.

We were planning to go from the Red Sea: Cairo - 1 hr fly or 16 hr bus to Sharm El Sheikh - 3/4 hr bus to Nuweiba - 1.5 hr (some people said it's unreliable and could end up being a 9 hr ride) once per day fast ferry to Aqaba - 90 minute bus to Petra, but this trip could cost up to $200 per person, wastes a lot of days, and difficult to arrrange the timing correctly.

  • 4. White Desert Safari
    http://www.westerndeserthotel.com/desert.html

Settled on this one after comparing at least 20 sites. Read bad things about Minamar Hotel tours (their tours are always the first few results when searching on Google). Also their reviews look like they were left by them. One example I saw was 3 identical reviews left on 3 different threads on http://lonelyplanet.com /thorntree /profile.jspa? userID=675425

If you want to deal with travel agency, you need to wait them out. They quoted me $800 in the beginning then came down to $500 when you don't email them back.

Western Desert Hotel offered 300 EUR for 2 people. They reply emails promptly and you don't have to put a deposit. You pay when you get there. I realized that we don't want to spend the first night at Bahariya Oasis like most tours offer, because you can just do that on your own without paying for a tour. Western Safari goes into the desert the first day. I read that most hotels out there are sub-standard, so we are going to camp and truly enjoy the desert experience instead.

We struggled with whether to do the desert trip on camel (400 EUR for 2 people), but worried about seeing less attractions. Finally decided that it might be easier to ride camel locally for a couple of hours instead of 2 days straight.

  • 5. Movenpick Hotel
Moevenpick Resort Petra, Petra - Wadi Musa, Ma'in Governorate
    Show Prices
    Avg price: $244

At leat $230 USD in December (high season) double room, but found $145 a night on asiatravel.com (prepaid). Someone said you can call the hotel directly and get the same cheap rate I got.

  • 6. Gondola Hotel and Suites
Gondola Hotel and Suites, Amman, Amman Governorate
    Show Prices
    Avg price: $110

$60 a night in the heart of city, easy access to public transportations. Staying there one night but plan to take the bus and spend most of the day at the Dead Sea, where you pay a small amount ($25 USD) to use the utility at a 5 star hotel ($280 a night) and enjoy their beach and pool.

  • 7. LTI- Pyramisa Isis Island Resort And Spa
LTI - Pyramisa Isis Island Resort & Spa, Aswan, Aswan Governorate
    Show Prices
    Avg price: $94

Listed $75 single, $105 double on most sites. But booked on otel.com which didn't ask you to pick single or double. It defaulted to double and gave $73 a night.

  • 8. Luxory Nile Cruise
    http://www.sonesta.com/NileCruises/

We are skipping the Nile Cruise because of its cost and time it takes. We plan to take a bus or even a private tour to visit the sites a cruise visits (Edfu, Kom Ombo, Valley of the Kings and Queens, Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, ect). I read that the first 2 attractions take one day and the others take another. By doing this, we save over $1500, provided that we were looking at taking The Moon Goddess USD $440 (4 nights USD 1,760.00) Luxor - Aswan or The Nile Goddess USD $400 (3 nights USD 1,200.00) Aswan - Luxor.

  • 9. Book Day Tours Locally

Small day tours, such as tours to temples, camel rides, balloon rides, just book them locally, even on the same day. It's a lot cheaper.
