Sandestin, Florida is beautiful, family friendly Destin's next door neighbor in Walton County.

Ave price: $337
Wonderful hotel right on the Gulf of Mexico, with beautiful views. Serenity by the Sea Spa is not to be missed. Brunch on site is wonderful, as is Seagar's restaurant.
2. Royal Orchid Thai Restaurant
Reasonable prices for wonderful food and atmosphere. Portions are perfect, and are cooked to your spicy-specifications (from mild to "Thai hot"). Thai tea with coconut milk is a favorite, but singha beer accompanies the meal well if you are allergic to coconut, like me! Friendly service by this family run business make it a great choice for lunch or dinner. Try to get a booth if one is available - the kids will love it!
To get a taste of real northern Florida life from days gone by, visit this wonderful state park which will be a family friendly outing and perfect for a picnic! A stately antebellum home sits on some gorgeous tree lined grounds backing onto an inlet on the Choctawhatchee Bay. Formerly the site of Artsquest, showcasing local artists on Mother's Day weekend, it is a wonderful site to explore, and may just inspire your inner artist or photographer.
4. Cuvee Beach Cellar & Wine Bar
Located just over the Okaloosa County line, this well-appointed restaurant boasts an impressively sophisticated menu and wine list (the wine store shares space with the restaurant) in a wonderful atmosphere while remaining child friendly - which many restaurants in this vein do not accomplish. Knowledgable staff helps you choose which of the wonderful items to savor. Save room for the delicious desserts!
5. Village of Baytowne Wharf
Restaurants, specialty shops, live music, and the only night club in Walton County, can be found at the Village of Baytowne Wharf. Whether you are in the mood for fine dining, pizza, ice cream, creole cooking, shopping or just afternoon tea (tea parties for young ladies includes items for dressing up!), you can find it in the Village of Baytowne Wharf. Most days there is even a ferry to take you from the parking area to the village itself (if you don't want to drive and then walk) across a portion of the Bay, and if you are lucky, you may be visited by some of the friendly dolphins which inhabit these waters. The ferry ride is especially romantic in the evening.
The white sands abutting the turquoise waters are clean, soft, and sing when you walk on it, thanks to the composition - ground quartz rock washing down to create the beaches. Warm and shallow by the shore, you can spend hours relaxing, walking, playing games, building sandcastles, or just enjoying the sights. Know the flag warning system (displayed by every beach access in the county) regarding the tides, and you will be safe as well as happy!
