Best places to eat, drink and sleep

  • Category: Perfect weekend
  • 1. Sandpiper House

Bed and Breakfast accommodation located on Belle Vue Terrace, Convenient for all local attractions in Whitby, and though parking is always a problem in Whitby, there are often spaces to be found nearby. Run by Peter and Minetta, it is family run and provides excellent quality accommodation with newly furbished rooms, including tea and coffee making facilities, en suite facilites, TV and radio, double, twin and single rooms and a cooked breakfast to die for, catering for all tastes. Friendly, helpful and warm, the owners offer a genuine welcome to all their guests, and each time I have been there, I have to book another visit. Without a doubt, the best Bed and Breakfast in Whitby.

  • 2. Humble Pie and Mash, Church Street, Whitby

No nonsense, well cooked wholesome hot pies, either served on their own or with mash, peas and gravy. A good variety to choose from and the tastiest pie I have ever had. I chose the lamb, leek and rosemary, and it was served with the smoothest mash, tasty gravy and peas. Absolutely delicious, and with a mug of tea, came to about £6.00. An old building, featuring many of its original features, and centrally located. Friendly, hospitable and definitely worth a visit.

  • 3. Pub

A warm, friendly, and welcoming pub, centrally placed on New Quay Road opposite the Railway Station. An excellent selection of real ales, ciders, spirits and wines, especially a brilliant choice of fruit based wines. I recommend the ginger. Entertainment on selected nights, and though they don't serve food, the place is always full of local people and Whitby's usual crowd of eccentric characters. Friendly owners and friendly bar staff. What more could you want? My favourite pub in Whitby.
