Best Restaurants in Hanford, CA

29 May 2009  Hanford native.
0.0 of 5 stars based on 0 votes

Hanford is not the most well-known city in California, but that doesn't mean there are no good places to eat. Quite the opposite actually! You can easily find one of the popular chain restaurants like Applebees, Chili's, etc, but this is a list of what I consider to be the best eateries in the area. To be honest, I am a simple person and most of the places on this list are not what I would call "elegant". However, they all serve fantastic food that has kept me coming back time and again, and I would recommend a meal at any of them.

  • 1. Superior Dairy
    Superior Dairy, Hanford, California

Let's start this off with a bang. Superior Dairy is an old-fashioned ice cream parlor located in historic downtown Hanford. Simple, down to earth, and affordable, this place serves the best tasting ice cream I have ever had. Every so often I'll tell someone where I grew up and they respond "Hanford? Never heard of it... oh wait, Superior Dairy right?" Many would argue that a trip to Hanford is not complete without having a meal (or at least a small milkshake) at this place.

  • 2. Purple Potato

The Purple Potato is hands down the most upscale place to eat in Hanford. If my parents decide to stay local for their anniversary, this is the place they usually go. The food is fabulous, and their prices are very reasonable.

  • 3. Boston House of Pizza
Boston House of Pizza, Hanford, California

If you're a fan of pizza, do yourself a favor and check this place out. When I was growing up, getting a pizza from Boston House was my family's (and most of my friends' families) Friday night tradition. I know pizza places are a dime a dozen in the US and there may be better ones out there somewhere, but as far as the Hanford area goes this is the best to be had in my opinion. They also serve a delicious sandwich called the Boston Steak Special.

  • 4. Jalisco Tacqueria

Jalisco's is what we in America fondly refer to as a "hole in the wall". This is a small Mexican deli located right next to the Royal Quick Lube on East 7th Street (a.k.a. Main Street). If you blink you'll miss this place, but it's definitely worth tracking it down. It's not much to look at, and admittedly this is not the place to go for a family dinner or a special occasion, but just about anyone who has tried one of their chile verde burritos will agree that you can't do much better. I've searched high and low trying to find another place that even comes close but I have yet to find one. They don't take credit cards so make sure and have some cash on you. You won't be sorry!

  • 5. Raven's Deli

Technically this is not in Hanford, but rather in the small town of Armona which is just a short drive away (maybe 10 minutes depending on where you're coming from). Raven's is locally famous for their tri tip and beef jerkey. They will even deep-pit a turkey for you if you bring one in. Absolutely delicious!

  • 6. El Tarasco Restaurant
    El Tarasco Restaurant, Hanford, California

Hanford used to be home to many top notch Mexican restaurants, but sadly most of them have gone the way of the Dodo. But thankfully there is still one that is a cut above the rest. El Tarasco! If you're in the mood for authentic Mexican food this is the place to go.
