This list has the very best that San Francisco has to offer. Mostly quick bites to grab on the go, but also some casual restaurants. All on the cheap.
Cheap eats for happy hour, on Monday and Thursday nights until 7pm. Located in the Ferry Building, with superb views of the bay. $1 oysters (the best in the bay!), beers for a few dollars more, and other appetizer specials.
An easy walk from Union Square. Usually a wait, but a good place for a simple $10 meal.
On Washington Square in North Beach. Go before noon to try their famous focaccia bread, fresh out of the oven. Various types, including pizza, garlic, onion, mushroom, raisin, etc. Ask for it sliced to make for an easy snack while wandering North Beach.
Dan Tat- Chinese egg custard tarts, known by all to be the best in SF. Golden Gate is in the heart of Chinatown on Grant Ave.
To go only, cash only. Vietnamese Sandwiches, all at under $3 each.
Indian/Pakistani restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere and friendly service. Great food too! An easy cab ride from Union Square, since it's not in the nicest of neighborhoods.
In the Tenderloin District, but don't let that deter you- it's an easy cab ride from Union Square. Go here for Slanted Door type eats at half the price. Try the 7 courses of beef, their speciality.
Look for the line out the door. Go for a casual breakfast of their morning buns or a pastry, have a sandwich for lunch, or try one of their mini tarts for dessert.
Dine in, or grab your meal to go and head over to Dolores Park for a picnic with a view. Try the super quesadilla suiza, better than their burritos.
Where I go for sit-down taqueria food, since they've nice indoor seating and pleasant atmosphere. Located close to 24th Street Mission BART too.
A great stop if you're exploring the Mission District. Close to Dolores Park and plenty of other restaurants on 18th St. Try flavors such as honey lavender, salted caramel, balsamic strawberry, along with the usual suspects.
The best sandwiches in the city! Stop by if you happen to be visiting the Castro District.
A good choice when exploring Golden Gate Park. Very good homestyle Malaysian and Singaporean food at budget prices.
