Most people visiting Seattle visit downtown, the Market, the waterfront and the Space Needle and call it good. This is a list of fun things to do along the north shore of Lake Union.

2. Shilshole Bay Marina
| This is just south of Golden Gardens park. There is a large statue of Leif Erickson there, and some Nordic rune stones with the names of Scandinavian immigrants. Lots of interesting boats, and a couple of places to eat if you are hungry (Ray's, a burger shack, and an outpost of Paseo's) |

3. Hiram M. Chittenden Locks
| This is on everyone's list, but some people (teenagers) can find it dull. The gardens are very nice, and you can walk around while waiting for the lock to fill with boats. Look for a sea lion below the locks. The salmon ladder on the far side is worth looking at. |

| This is a very long trail which runs east to west across this entire section of Seattle. The parts west of Fremont are particularly nice for riding. It goes all the way to Golden Gardens on the west, Children's Hospital near the U on the east ( and many points north of there). Bring your helmet and bike lock. |

5. Hale's Ales Brew and Pub Restaurant
| A good place for groups. They brew a selection of beers, some seasonal, some not. A tasting selection of ales is fun -- 5 five ounce tasting glasses for 6.95. The burgers are good, too. They have vegetarian options. Been around 25 years. |

| This place is one of under ten in the US which makes their own chocolate from cacao beans. They work hard to make it Fair Trade. Lots of tasting, but if you plan way in advance you can get on a tour. It is worth it! |

| This market has many tents plus an indoor section for rainy days. It is south and west of downtown Fremont, right on the water. Lots of artisans, good food, antiques, and more. |

| Who's That Walking Across My Bridge? This large statue -- big enough to hold an actual VW bug under its hand -- is a Seattle classic. They say it comes to life on Halloween.... |

| One of the best views in Seattle and a fun place to hang out, too. |

| Inside, there are a lot of very interesting northwest Native American artifacts. The food inside is pretty good and on the upscale side. Outside, there is a barge right on the water that people can boat up to. Regular folks without boats can get takeout food on the street and eat at tables on the barge. Great view! |

| There's a lot going on here. Many fun shops and places to find inexpensive eats on University Way. Also lots of fun movie theaters with more than the average multiplex movies being shown. The Quad on campus was designed by Frederick Law Olmstead, who designed Central Park. It majestically frames Mt. Rainier. If the mountain is out, go see it. |
