1. Hike the jungle road
Head out past Costa Azul hotel on the road and you can go a total of 3 miles from town on a dirt road with scenic views and lots of birds, maybe even a tejon. When you get to the spot where there is a sign for Clavallina, turn around and head back There are good sized hills so its a very good workout.
2. The Buddah loop
Head out the jungle road, and after the first really big hill (there is a property called Las Bancas on the left, and you have passed Bungalow's Lydia at the bottom of the hill) take the right fork just over the top of the hill. This will bring you up a very steep hill...there is one more place where you will go left instead of right...and at the top is a Buddah which looks out over San Pancho and the sea. People bring offerings of flowers or whatever they like. It's a very serene spot after the uphill. Keep going and you will rejoin the jungle road at the end. This is an excellent workout. Another option is to take the jungle road to the end, and then take a right up the hill to the Buddah and continue around down the big hill and back to the jungle road...a very good workout, but not as strenuous as the other way.
3. The Road to Las Lomas
Take the jungle road up to the first big hill (as above) and take the rifht fork just over the top of the hill. Climb the big hill, and when you come to the place where you would choose to go left up to the Buddah, continue up hill to the right. At the next fork stay left. You can walk along the ridge on this road all the way to Las Lomas and Monterey Beach...you can turn back at any time. This is a very strenuous hike and can be quite long if you like. Again, lots of birds and maybe some wildlife. Very few cars on this road.
