1. Malmaison hotel Leeds
Great designer hotel in the heart of Leeds with food to die for. Try the smoked salmon bagel for breakfast and eat in the bistro with the Leeds set in the evening.
2. West Yorkshire Playhouse. Leeds
Buzzing theatre with a great selection of plays in it's repertoire. Good theatre shop too.
3. The city of York
I was at college in York and lived there for 4 years and |I never tired of it! A fantastic city for sightseeing, shopping, walking, taking in the wonderful history and the variety of architecture. Huge variety of bars, restaurants and cafes. Small enough to feel friendly and welcoming. Love it!
4. Whitby
Attractive, wierd fishing town with links to Dracula . Explore the East side with its winding streets and interesting, quirky shops, then eat superb fish and chips out of newspaper. Climb the 199 steps to the ruined abbey and spend time reading the epitaphs on the old gravestones, before going back down to the Dracula experience. Buy some Whitby jet, a second hand book or two and a stick of peppermint rock
5. Stephen Joseph Theatre in the Round, Scarborough
This is Alan Ayckbourn's theatre. It's a fabulous place for a pre theatre meal then watch one of his own plays. All seats have great views of the actors and set. Interesting Theatre shop too
6. The Yorkshire Moors
What is there to say about the views here? Explore the little villages and pubs, stop off at the many market towns in the area, especially on market day and visit the ruined abbeys that nestle in the valleys, particularly Fountains and Bolton Abbey. Try Ripley Castle, just South of Ripon for a wonderful tour of it's rooms (there's a real priest's hole) and buy plants, cheese and gifts in the lovely courtyard. Smashing restaurant too.
