  • 1. Petit Delice, French Patisserie, Caherciveen

Great fresh ground coffee and baked delights such as Pain au Chocolat, Brownies, Walnut tart, etc. Savoury filled crepes available too. Cheap prices too in comparison to other cafes in the area.

  • 2. Leacanabuaile and Cahergal ring forts, Caherciveen

Very well preserved (and restored) ring forts. Very peaceful due to lack of crowds.

  • 3. Self-catering cottage (converted stable) on Cappamore hill farm, Waterville (beside Lough Currane)

Beautifully renovated one-bedroom cottage attached to a hill farm beside Lough Currane. Fantastic budget self-catering option for stays of a week or more. Traditional turf fire (all turf included), lovely little kitchen, cosy bedroom - all with beautiful traditional decor. Great scenic location a 10-minute drive from Waterville town.

  • 4. The Blind Piper pub, Caherdaniel

Lovely old traditional pub. Great lunches.

  • 5. Derrynane beach

One of the loveliest beaches in Ireland. The left part is unsafe for swimming because of currents, but the right part seems to be safe enough. A great way to spend a sunny day.

  • 6. Derrynane house and national park

The house where Daniel O'Connell grew up. Worth taking a look around, especially on a rainy morning/afternoon. Very informative 20-minute av presentation included in the price of admission. The grounds are lovely for a stroll around and even include an overgrown ring fort.

  • 7. Quinlans fishmongers, Caherciveen

Great fresh fish for when you want to stay in and cook yourself.

  • 8. Ballycarbery Castle, Caherciveen
