My friend and me traveled 3 weeks through England & Wales by rental car. We slept in B&B's, at private houses and in the car:)
From Heathrow we drove to Frome in Somerset. We started our tour there. Frome is just a charming small english town. You can have nice walks in the fields around and it's just lovely there.
We did not sleep there, but we spend a great evening at the pub there. Great people, friendly staff, nice atmosphere, we woould definitely come again.
Ok, we were really impressed by this huge & beautiful cathedral! We spent a whole afternoon there, walking through the cathedral, discovering a lot of things inside, lying in front of the cathedral in the grass, having a picnic, it was beautiful! And ...there was no entrance fee:)
We were not very keen on visiting Stonehenge, but we've been close so we decided to go. And - that was a good decision, we were pretty early in the morning so it was'nt so crowded. And it was totally fascinating and it was more than worth the visit!
We stayed there 2 nights, and the tourist information in Bath gave us the tip to stay there. for us it was the perfect place to stay. 60 Pounds for a double room per night, including breakfast. The room was very tiny, but with a nice decor and very clean. The manager was a really nice lady who made a delicious breakfast.
And also great: They gave us a parking pass and we could park for free on the street!
Belongs to the famous Moles Club. Good and friendly staff, nice beers, and good live music.
7. Botanical Garden Bath, Somerset
It's not big, but beautiful:) With hidden pathes and no entreance fee....
It's not the beautiful landscape you can find here, it's more to watch people at a typical beach promenade.
We loved that place! we spent about 4 hrs walking around (outside) with our audio guides. Inside it was'nt that spectacular...but walking outside and having a picnic in front of the castle was nice.
This was our favourite castle on that trip! We arrived very early in the morning, we were the only people there, no entreance fee and a kind of mystic. We felt like in movie, waiting for some knights coming around the corner:)
We were disappointed from Swansea, because we expected much more. But...there was a very nice city beach!
We spent there 1 night, and we really enjoyed our stay! Especially the breakfast:))))
What a great little coastal town! It was so beautiful watching the great sunsets at the beach in Aberystwyth!
Very crowded at the weekends, great pubfood, nice live music. and - the have boardgames there. We had so much fund there...
We loved Barmouth! How great is that, having the ocean and the mountains so close together. We did great hiking tours and always with a nice view to the sea. Oh, and we met a lot of sheep!
We stayed 3 nights, so we enjoyed it.
17. The Turf Tavern, Oxford
What a lovely pub! It's very old and cosy, but there's also a lot of space to sit outside. Very crowded in the weekend....students everywhere.
