Two weeks in beautiful Peru: Trujillo, Cusco & Lima

  • 1. Kuoda Tours
    http://www.kuodatravel.com/

The best travel agency/tour guides in Peru! We are fairly independent travelers, and did not want to go with a group. But, we also didn't want the hassle of dealing with transportation, etc. Using Kuoda was the perfect compromise! The director, Mery Calderon, was extremely detail-oriented and courteous. All of our drivers and guides (especially Edgar and Olga in Cusco) in the different cities were knowledgeable and interesting. With Kuoda, we were able to work with Mery to create an itinerary geared specially towards our interests, and addressing our desired creature comforts. Highly recommended!

  • 2. Trujillo
    Trujillo, La Libertad Region

Started our trip here, spending 2 nights, 3 days. We visited to learn about some of the earlier Peruvian cultures, including the Inca and pre-Inca civilizations. We are so glad we included Trujillo in our plans! It had the feel of a very large little city -- small town charm, but with a large population.

Convenient, but a little rough around the edges. (See our complete review on the hotel page.)

  • 4. Huaca del Sol y la Luna
Huaca del Sol y la Luna, Trujillo, La Libertad Region

One of the highlights of our trip. Absolutely amazing. Two Moche temples overshadowed in reputation by the nearby Chan Chan, but in our opinion so much more impressive. The beautiful colored reliefs are incredible. This site is a must for all archaeology buffs! (And if you're lucky, you might catch sight of a Peruvian hairless dog roaming the grounds.)

  • 5. Mar Picante

Delicious and fresh ceviche. And be sure to get a pitcher of lemonade to wash it down!

  • 6. Chan Chan
Chan Chan, Trujillo, La Libertad Region

Impressively large and well kept-up. One of the more popular tourist sites in Trujillo.

  • 7. Lima
    Lima, Lima Region

Stopped here for one night after Trujillo and before Cusco, and for one night after Cusco.

Fun for camelid-fans! Got up and close to llamas, vicunas, and alpacas! Interesting to see the weavers at work, and to learn about their natural dyes. The products for sale may have been over-priced, but were of obviously good quality.

  • 12. Kuychi Rumi

Perfect home base for the Sacred Valley. (See our complete review on the hotel page, with photos!)

  • 13. Pisac
    Pisac, Cusco, Cusco Region

Visited both the ruins and the market. Good gateway introduction to Inca civilization in the Sacred Valley. Quieter and not as crowded in the early morning.
