Few hints and tips on Melia Cayo Guillermo, Cuba

2 Mar 2010  Having a good vacation
4.5 of 5 stars based on 2 votes

Here are some tips about the resort:

1 - Internet is SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Takes 5 minutes to log-in
into your yahoo account. Don't bring your company work here to
finish it on the internet! The voucher is 6 CUC for 1 hr.

2 - The beach is awsome! Unbelievable! The pools are clean and
really nice with good pool-side bars.

3 - The drink variety is really good.

4 - Remember to keep 25 CUC per person for airport tax.

5 - You can do horse back riding if you wish.

6 - Jeep safari is not that great IMO. It stops in a crocodile
farm and has a 10 minute boat ride. However you have to pass
into cuban mainland to see stuff. So you are driving for 4 + hrs.
The Speed Boat is really good and includes some snorkeling time
in a very nice spot.

7 - The resort is super clean! The maid service is great. The rooms
are hardly a 2.5 star in canadian standards , however the resort itself
is really a 5 star IMO.

8 - The entertainment group is good. The nights with dancing shows
are really good. The contest-based shows are just OK IMO.

9 - I believe it is better to change your money in the airport.
There is a bank in the resort which is open till late, but the rates
are higher.

10 - There is a shop in the resort for cigar/cigarrettes. The
price of cigars were somewhat less in the airport. The duty free in the airport
has small variety of alchoholic drinks. I did not see cigarrettes for
sale in the duty free shops!! But lots of cigars.

11 - Pilar beach is 8 miles away. 5 CUC per person round trip(Taxi).
The beach is prepared for tourists and looks like Melia/Sol Cayo Guillermo
beach, a tad bit nicer!

12 - If you are into fishing, you can fish off the pier. Bring your own rod. It is fun.
