A great weekend that I would like to spend here if I wasn't working! :)
If I didn't have a home to go to this would be where I would stay. The atmosphere is great and the location is not too shabby either. You would be close to the beach or downtown. I once visited one of my out of town friends here and secretly wished I could stay here too. The staff is great, the pool is very relaxing and the nearby bar has the friendliest bar staff around. I almost wish I didn't live here so I could stay here too. I did say ALMOST! :)
The first place I'd want for breakfast in Fort Lauderdale is Floridian. This place is like a step back in time. The dining room can be loud and boisterous, but wow, what a breakfast you get!!! Portions are LARGE! This is truly a Fort Lauderdale landmark, enough said!
The first item on my agenda, after breakfast of course, would be strolling the beach and enjoying the sun and sand. The beach in Fort Lauderdale isn't big, but you can definately get your sun on. The ocean waves will be crashing and will be calling you to come on in and have a dip! That would be what I would do of course after waiting a little while for my HUGE breakfast to settle!!! :)
After the beach, why not get a slice. You can't beat the atmosphere of this little pizza place/dive on Fort Lauderdale beach. Their slices are awesome and will definately refuel you for the rest of your active day! Not to be missed.
After getting sandy and wet, you might want to take a shower, but when you are done, I believe a little shopping is in order. How about a walk down Las Olas to check out all of the neat eclectic shops?
After shopping, and refreshing, it's time to head downtown for some nightlife! My first stop would be Shizen. This is an awesome Sushi Bar right on Las Olas. The serving staff is very friendly and helpful. PLEASE try the volcano roll and the Teriyaki Steak. You will not be disappointed. If you make reservations, you might be able to score one of the sunken tables. If you eat outside, you have an awesome people watching view.
Okay, if you are new to Fort Lauderdale, check out this Irish Pub for awesome live music, jazz and great drinks. If you sit outside they have some vittles too. This is a South Florida mainstay.
Alright, for morning number two, you must try Lester's Diner on 84. This is a truly homestyle diner featuring a very large cup of coffee. The pastries on display look like works of art. The portions and selection are large, and the service is pretty good too.
This is a great way to spend the day. Nothing like bargain shopping to while away the day, and plenty of food/drink options abound.
Another option if you don't feel like heading as far West as Sawgrass is Seminole Paradise, tons of shopping and restaurants, and of course, the casino awaits as well.
The next thing on my agenda after a full day of shopping would be to find the best happy hour around, That would be at Tarpon Bend. Two for one happy hour and great appetizers are offered as well as exciting atmosphere and being surrounded by the ambiance of downtown Fort Lauderdale!
I would be remiss if I didn't mention this awesome establishment. PLEASE come here to get some of the BEST creole cooking in South Florida. Not to mention the entertaining wait staff. You are blessed if you have Miss RosaMarie serving you. Trust me, she wasn't named the best waitress in South Florida's City Link Magazine for nothing! She will keep you entertained from the time you sit down to the time you pay your bill. Just bring a thick skin, because she has a sense of humor and likes to flirt! :)
I would end my evening here, if not begin it. The staff is friendly and this is definately an historic watering hole in Fort Lauderdale. Check out the pictures, they speak for themselves. If you go on Wednesdays they have an awesome Happy Hour menu and the staff is all too friendly. The food is great, as well as the drinks, but the view...well you really gotta check it out for yourself! This visit would top off my best of Fort Lauderdale!
