Princeton, New Jersey is primarily known for the University bearing its name. However, there are many points of interest other than the University that are sometimes overlooked by the typical visitor. Let me fill you in on some of the other attractions in and around Princeton such as shopping spots, beautiful parks, and great local restaurants.

1. Trenton Farmers Market
A little off the beaten path, but not far from Princeton, is the Trenton Farmers Market. About 6 miles down Route 206 South, (Princeton is located right off Route 206) you'll find a great local farmers market with over 40 vendors selling authentic Polish, Italian, American specialties along with fresh produce and fruits from several local farms. The selection of fruits and veggies is supurb and the prices can't be beat. From May till September, several farms bring the best strawberries and rhubarb around, as well as corn and tomatoes. If you want to experience local New Jersey flavor, come for a visit.
2. The Bent Spoon
This is by far, my favorite place in the world. Take a step into this little piece of heaven and you'll understand.
Located in Palmer Square in Princeton, is The Bent Spoon. This specialty icecream and sorbet shop is like no other. It is owned and run by a local couple that are passionate about icecream and all other sweets. With flavors like nutty caramel streak, madagascar vanilla bean, and sicilian blood orange sorbet, you know these people are serious about thier sweets. They use organic ingredients whenever possible and free-range products as well. They also bake the most unbelievably delicious cupcakes and cookies anywhere. If you visit Princeton, a stop at The Bent Spoon is a must!
3. Sakura Express
This sushi spot is a great alternative to the usually stuffy and overpriced restaurants right near the University. It is located next to the newly renovated courtyard of the Princeton Library. Here, you'll find fresh, delicious sushi served very casually from the sushi chef preparing it in front of you at the small bar. It is a seat-yourself establishement, usually full of students seeking a cheap but great sushi meal.
4. Sayen Gardens
Located in Hamilton Square, New Jersey (just a few minutes from Princeton), Sayen Gardens is a beautiful place to visit. With meandering paths full of flowering bushes and plants, this small park is a joy to discover. There is no charge to enter and free parking is provided at the park entrance. Stroll the meticulously kept grounds and breathe in the sweet-smelling air of this central Jersey treasure.
