Tour of Sri Lanka - self-guided with car and driver.
Since all international flights to Sri Lanka arrive in Colombo, the best place to start the tour is the capital city. Huge suburbs fan out around a vibrant city centre. Manic traffic at times, but plenty of places for visitors to see including museums and places of worship.
Executive room was a top tip with free glass of champagne on arrival, complimentary bottle of wine in the room, free happy hour daily and free high tea & breakfast. Excellent rooms and bathrooms with nice views of the city.
Love the elephants and getting close to them at bathing time in the river. Great photo opportunity. The tourist shops are a bit tacky but you can always say "no".
Great views and with character. You feel like you are in the jungle with the bird/animal/plant life around. A bit shabby though and a long way out of Kandy. You might be able to find a better hotel in Kandy and more convenient for the sights.
Interesting historical town. The famous Temple of the Tooth is found alongside a church and Hindu temple. LIvely shopping area for those that are interested.
Must-see Buddhist temple while in Sri Lanka
Awesome and also good exercise! Training on the stair-master would have been useful! Love the frescoes and the awesome views from the top.
We did this as a day trip from Kandy but if you have more time it is worth staying nearby and exploring more historic and cultural places nearby.
Amazing rock temple at Dambulla. Climbing up to the top while recovering from climbing up to the top at Sigiriya is not recommended, but it is worth the walk. Spooky caves full of images of Buddha. Watch out for the monkeys. My sister started to change her camera battery and nearly got attached by a large monkey. We think it thought she had some food! I brandished an umbrella to scare it away.
Every time I come here my visit gets rained off. Amazing place with beautiful palm avenues.
A former tea factory converted to a hotel. Beautiful views, amazing cool climate, beautiful gardens. A unique place to stay.
Colonial era houses mix with Sri Lankan market town.
Visit a tea factory to find out how tea is made. Enjoy the views of the hills and the other gardens of leek, potato, beetroot, carrots, etc.
Waterfalls and hills. Viewpoint while heading south to the coast from Nuwara Eliya
Gorgeous luxurious hotel for relaxing at the end of our tour. It's a long 6-hour tirp back to Colombo so take your time on the way back.
We listed at least 30 animals and birds that we saw on safari at Yala. Sadly we did not see a leopard although there is a good chance you might if you visit.
Colourful fishing port. Worth a photo stop for that alone.
We loved the Fort area of Galle and wish we had also made time to stay here too.
