What to pack into a weekend in Liverpool to get the best of everything on offer.

  • 1. Liverpool Anglican Cathedral

    One of the two , very different, cathedrals which are at opposite ends of the aptly named Hope Street!

  • 2. Sefton Park, Palm House

    Recently renovated Grand building, full of exotic plants, right in the middle of Sefton Park, where you can feed the ducks in the lake.

  • 3. Walker Art Gallery Liverpool

    One of the best galleries in the country, right in the CENTRE and free to ENTER!

  • 4. Anfield Football Ground

    2 miles from the centre, home of the (5 times!) European cup winners, just across the park from the other team's ground (Everton)

  • 5. Mersey Ferry

    The one in the sixties song!

  • 6. Williamson Tunnels

    They were built for no particular purpose other than to provide employment thanks to a philanthropic gentleman! On the edge of the city centre.

  • 7. Empire theatre

    One of the old style theatres which could be showing opera, ballet, rock groups....who knows? Soak up the atmosphere.

  • 8. Queens Square

    Beautiful area full of restaurants" a la Mediterranean". If it's warm sit out, if not, they're just as nice inside.

  • 9. Penny Lane Wine Bar

    On the real Penny Lane, from the song. Have lunch, a glass of wine ..or just your photo taken by the street sign!

  • 10. Crosby

    Just a couple of miles along from the docks, see the sculptures dotted all over the beach and in the water. Bet you can't count them.

  • 11. Lark Lane

    Liverpool's answer to the King's Road! Cosmopolitan lane, off Sefton Park, full of bars, restaurants and little unusual shops. You might be lucky and get one of the frequent craft fairs.

  • 12. Cavern Walks

    Upmarket shopping arcade with designer shops, in the centre of town...near the Cavern itself.

  • 13. Cheshire Oaks

    Big shopping outlet village with cinema and eating places, just a few miles out of the city, near the walled town of Chester, which is also worth a visit.

  • 14. Holiday Inn Express

    Just one of dozens of places to stay, this one's right on the river.
