Go wild or relax for a weekend in the Wildwoods!!!

24 May 2006  Three generations of my family have enjoyed weekends here every year.
4.5 of 5 stars based on 1 vote

A great home away from home for summer weekends. Fun for the entire family, something for everyone. Choose a calm walk on the beach or take a wild ride on the ocean waves. Take a relaxing ride on the tram or enjoy the wild amusment rides on the boardwalk. Stay in a doo wop hotel or have a campfire at one of the many area campgrounds.

  • Category: Perfect weekend
  • 1. Morey's Pier / Amusment Rides
    http://www.moreyspiers.com/

You can start your weekend off riding the amusments at Morey's Pier. The little ones will have fun on the Mini Tea Cups, the Seal Flume, and the Mini Scrambler. The entire family can ride the Pirates of the Wildwoods, the Sky Ride, and the Giant Ferris Wheel. Those who are more adventerous will want to try one of the three roller coasters, one of which is The Great Nor'Easter. When your stomach has calmed down, partake in a cup of Curley Fries and a glass of fresh squeezed lemonade.

There are several boat rides to take in the Wildwoods. Everyone will shreak with excitment watching dolphins swim along with the boat.

  • 4. Have lunch on the boardwalk.

Have lunch on the boardwalk, overlooking the Atlantic ocean. Enough food establishment to meet everyones expectations, from tasty burgers, exotic salads, mexican food, to jumbo shrimp. Pizza tastes extra cheesy if you can devour it in the salt air.

  • 5. An afternoon on the beach.

Some things in life are still free, like the sandy white beaches in Wildwood. Bring the shovels and pails and build a sand castle. Bring a beach chair and catch up on your reading. Take a walk and collect sea shells. So much to do!!

  • 6. Diner @ Crab House Seafood Restaurant
    http://www.thecrabhouse.com/

The menu alone is enough to entertain you. Some of things you will learn are:

    What is a blue crab?
A blue crab is a type of crab that is found all over the world and is found in great quantity in the Chesapeake Bay. It is bluish - green in color before it is cooked. They are popular because of their abundant and fine tasting meat.

Why are the Crab House crabs (Miles River crabs) so much better than others?
Miles River Crabs are caught on trout lines 1 crab at a time and not by crab pots. This means that the crabs have not been sitting in a pot for 24 hours feeding on a rotten chicken neck or on eel bait. Crabs tend to absorb the flavor of what they have eaten and take 24 hours to cleanse themselves. In addition the salinity of the water of the miles river is low (brackish) which produces a better tasting and larger crab. The upper Chesapeake Bay is fed by fresh water rivers which reduce the salinity of the salt water.

  • 7. A morning at the zoo.
    http://www.capemaytimes.com/cape-may-county/zoo/default.htm

Another freebie, both admission and parking is FREE !!!! A wonderful zoo located just outside the Wildwoods in Cape May Courthouse. There are over 200 species of animals and reptiles to observe. My favorite part of the zoo is the African Savannah which is home to giraffes, zebra, and African antelopes. In another area you will find cougars, cheetahs, tigers, lions and two species of leopard. You will also laugh watching the antics of a dozen different species of monkeys.

The zoo also has a playground for the children to work off any excess energy they may have. Picnic tables are available so you can enjoy an afternoon picnic.
