    Saint Augustine, Florida

Took the kids on a road trip to St. Augustine, Savannah, and Charleston Spent about two and a half days at each place. (traveled on half days) Had an amazing time. Sharing some thoughts and some highlights of the trip in case anyone would like to travel the same route with kids.
St. Augustine- very family friendly city with nice transportation
went in summer and if you are not used to heat, get ready! Stay hydrated. Did a trolley tour.Word of advice- do not buy attraction tickets through trolley company. They claim to be 10% cheaper, but they are not. If you have AAA, your discount would be better. Keep youe eye on the prices from them.
City is family oriented during day, but at night walking through village, definately PG 13 if you have younger kids. We were not out late (8:30, 9:00) and people drunk yelling profanity through streets and restaurants. Also, drunks roaming parking lot of our hotel. Just prepare kids. Loved the city though and loads of fun for the family.

  • 2. Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park
Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park, Saint Augustine, Florida

Pretty fun. Kids enjoyed the trip. Not as educational as you would hope but still pretty fun. Allow about an hour to tour.

  • 3. Gonzalez-Alvarez House (Oldest House)
Gonzalez-Alvarez House (Oldest House), Saint Augustine, Florida

Great house tour. They are really on the ball when it comes to starting tours. Loved the contrast of Spanish/Brit architechture budget 30 min.

  • 4. Authentic Old Jail
Authentic Old Jail, Saint Augustine, Florida

My favorite st augustine attraction. Lots of info with a great guide. really get a feel for what it was like in the old jail. Allow about 45 min to tour and take pictures.

  • 5. St. Augustine Alligator Farm
St. Augustine Alligator Farm, Saint Augustine, Florida

Well what can you say? Tourist trap but you gotta love it! Pretty pricey allow about an 1.5 to tour and be there at 3:00 to watch them feed maximo!

  • 6. The Oldest Store Museum
The Oldest Store Museum, Saint Augustine, Florida

If you are pressed for time, skip this one. Not really worth it. I wish we had done the lightner museum. If you do it, allow about 20 min.

  • 7. Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse
Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse, Saint Augustine, Florida

Amazing this bldg is still standing! Allow about 15 to 20 min.

  • 8. Castillo de San Marcos
Castillo de San Marcos, Saint Augustine, Florida

Great tour but really hot. Make sure you are there during the cannon firing. If you have school aged kids, they would enjoy the junior ranger program here. Allow about an hour.

  • 9. Santa Maria Restaurant
Santa Maria Restaurant, Saint Augustine, Florida

We ate one night at this rest. I saw all of the reviews but everything was packed and we had just rolled into town. Pleasantly surprised! Dont get the impression it is any more than any other fried seafood place at the beach. However, loved the fish feeding, quick service, and lots of history of the building. A little pricey but isnt everything these days?

  • 10. A1A Ale Works
A1A Ale Works, Saint Augustine, Florida

Ate here the second night. Reasonably priced for the type of food you get. Make reservations though. It gets crowded.
