This is the itinerary I put together for a first date in London. It can be tweaked to suit. Total cost for two people including a nice hotel (4 star) with all travel, food, drink and attraction entry is approximately £250. It can be done for less with some prior planning, discounts or vouchers.
My first list so I hope you enjoy it.
Check into a reasonable and modern hotel with fantastic beds, shower wet rooms and free wi-fi.
Enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast and coffee to set you up for the day
Skip the full London Bridge Experience and pay only 50% for the London Tombs scare experience. This allows you to queue jump to the front. Try and get near the front of the group when going into the Tombs themselves for the best scares
Take a slow stroll through Hyde Park, arm in arm which leads you too...
Once finished with the tour of Kensington Palace head south out of the park to a convenient little Starbucks for a gingerbread latte and toasted sandwich before continuing. Failing that there is a Wagamamas right across the street.
Take a moonlit stroll along the South Bank, serenaded by buskers and street performers. Catch a free jazz or classical performance at the Exhibition Hall over a glass of wine or two.
Hope a tube across to Chelsea for dinner reservations at the extremely reasonably priced Big Easy Crabshack. Steamed mussels and crab claws to start with 600gram sirloin-on-the-bone steak for mains. Excellent wine list.
After dinner, take a short walk past independent art stores to Sloan Square. Grab a taxi (£10) to Leicester Square and enjoy the crowds and energy. Keep walking straight to...
At this time of night the cobbles will be empty of performers but the square will still be busy with crowds moving to and from the various bars.
Catch last orders at the Dirty Martini and enjoy a final cocktail (Ginger Fizz) before heading back to the hotel tipsy, well fed and having seen some of the major attractions of London in one day.
