Perfect Family Visit to New York City

4 Sep 2012  Great trip list for a family of 4.
0.0 of 5 stars based on 0 votes

  • 1. St. Patrick's Cathedral
St. Patrick's Cathedral, New York City, New York

Our first stop was to this famous cathedral. Although always nice to see the architecture of these beautiful buildings, I wont place this on the "must see list". If you havent seen a large stately cathedral then worth the stop. If you have been to Notre Dame in Paris, you will be ambivalent to this visit. It was on our way to Rockefeller Center so we stopped.

  • 2. Top of the Rock Observation Deck
Top of the Rock Observation Deck, New York City, New York

This is a must see attraction. I would go straight to the top observation deck that has no glass. I am a photographer who was weary that they would be strict about tripods. I was able to use mine to stabilize it just enough for some great sunset pics.

  • 3. Joe's Shanghai
Joe's Shanghai, New York City, New York

This is a great Chinese restaurant that is nice and clean. The Xiao Loong Bao there is spectacular. If you are in the mood for Chinese, I highly recommend it...great food without needing to head into Chinatown.

  • 4. Guy & Gallard
Guy & Gallard, New York City, New York

Breakfast without breaking the bank. Breakfast burrito did the trick. Kids devoured theirs. Fresh orange juice was worth the extra expense.

  • 5. USTA National Tennis Center
USTA National Tennis Center, Flushing, New York

The reason for our trip. Get a day pass with access to Arthur Ashe for just a a little bit more from TicketExchange or StubHub. You have made the pilgrimage, maximize your options to see the biggest names.

  • 6. Levain Bakery
Levain Bakery, New York City, New York

There is a reason why this is at the top of list here at Tripadvisor...baked goods are unbelievable. Believe the hype, it is worth the visit. Baked doughnut, cookies, chocolate brioche...all were to die for. Take a cookie for a snack between museum visits!

  • 7. American Museum of Natural History
American Museum of Natural History, New York City, New York

Dinosaur exhibit alone is worth the visit. Remember the entrance fee is at your discretion. Take time to read the inscriptions on the wall by Theodore Roosevelt. Thought provoking.

  • 8. Central Park
Central Park, New York City, New York

Beautiful oasis from the mass of humanity. Amazing someone had the foresight to save this space. Wish we had more time to explore.

  • 9. Zabar's
Zabar's, New York City, New York

A good lunch stop. Paninni's were good. Just enjoyed watching the local gathering spot for old friends. A deli you know has been the meeting point for what many call the greatest generation.

  • 10. Metropolitan Museum of Art
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City, New York

Ridiculous how much art is here. Hard to see it all so grab a map and be planful. Biggest surprise to me was how interesting and well layed out the Egyptian articfacts section is.

  • 11. Chelsea Market
Chelsea Market, New York City, New York

A feast for the senses, the Chelsea Market is just fantastic. Be ready for the crowds if it is a weekend. You can find anything your hearts desire...just bring your appetite.

  • 12. High Line
High Line, New York City, New York

Just above the Chelsea Market, a beautiful stroll along a reclaimed section of above ground railway.

  • 13. Grand Central Terminal
Grand Central Terminal, New York City, New York

This place is wher it all comes together. Beautifully done. Notice the ceiling when walking in. A neat place and worth the stop.

  • 14. Dumbo
    Dumbo, Brooklyn, New York

Take the A train to DUMBO to get a classic view of the Brooklun Bridge with the NYC skyline behind it. Spectacular at sunset.

  • 15. Grimaldi's
Grimaldi's, New York City, New York

Pizza at its finest...just be prepared to stand in line for an hour or so to get in!

  • 16. Hilton Garden Inn New York West 35th
Hilton Garden Inn New York West 35th, New York City, New York

    Avg price: $409

Great location next to a subway stop, across from Macy's. Got a room with a view of the Empire State Building. It was especially awesome to look out at the building at night. Nice and clean.
