Some of the most colorful and fun dragon boat festivals, and places to paddle, in the world.
1. Vancouver, Canada
Paddle in the Pacific at the top rated Alcan Dragon Boat Festival every June. Or see if you've got sealegs during the Cherry Blossom Festival in March.
2. Hong Kong, China
The Tueng Ng Festival takes places in May or June, depending on how the calendar falls. Fierce dragon boats race one another in Hong Kong Harbor.
3. Taipei, Taiwan
War cries and sticky rice are just two of the accessories to this colorful June festival.
4. Penang, Malaysia
Dragons have been racing in the waters around Penang since 1934 and their festival is one of the dragon boat world's most prestigious.
5. Christchurch, New Zealand
Lake Rotokohatu is the site of one of the world's youngest and most enthusiastic festivals. The freshwater adds an extra challenge for paddlers.
6. Cambridge, England
Cambridge is the perfect punting spot - dragon boats take to the waters normally raced by the famous Oxbridge crews.
7. San Francisco, USA
Food, vendors and obstacle races add to the fun of the September festival.
8. Melbourne, Australia
The Yarra River is the site of the festival here, where dragon boats float by the city skyline and the famous Botanic Gardens.
9. Bergen, Norway
Dragon boats float along the fjords in perhaps the chilliest of festivals.
Only introduced in 1978, dragon boat racing swiftly became a major sport in Singaporean waters and now dozens of team compete for honors.
