These are the places that top my fantasy road and rail trip itineraries.
1. New York City

The lure; the buzz of Greenwich Village, the new park area along the Hudson, the bars and restaurants, the canyons of Wall Street, pizza in Brooklyn, hip hoods like Park Slope and Williamsburg over in Brooklyn.
2. Missoula, Montana
Missoula, Montana
Nestled in the Bitteroot Valley, surrounded by mountains, Missoula is a captivating college town with an intriguing mix of students, bohemian academics, aging hippies and logging and ranching famllies.
3. San Francisco
San Francisco, California
The lures; stunning setting, a seemingly endless list of thrilling restaurants, some of the world's hottest nightlife and the gorgeous Golden Gate Park.
4. Madison, Wisconsin
