Don't fuss about which hotel to take: centre is very big, so you will be in the centre...
This hotel is the one we used and it was okay. Helpful staff. It's near all mkinds of public transportation, near the East station, not the nicest of neighbourhoods, but it is safe and a good position to explore the city.

  • 3. Hungarian National Museum (Magyar Nemzeti Muzeum)
Hungarian National Museum (Magyar Nemzeti Muzeum), Budapest, Central Hungary

13:00 Go and have Luncheon (Gulyasleves and Dobos torta as desert) at Astoria (discount with the Budapest card) at Astoria. Lovely service, beautiful restaurant and not that expensive either.

14:30After your meal, just walk around the block to the National Museum. Don't forget the Archaeology part, just to the left standing before the reception. Really great way to show the objects and give an image to a story!

Get a nice mulled wine outside and see the changing of the guards at noon.

  • 9. Labyrinth of Buda Castle (Budavari Labirintus)

12:30 Underneath the castle grounds caves and cellars to wander through. A special way to explore some of Budapest history. Discount with the budapest card, good thing since it is a bit expensive. Bit strange though, it seems as if two different groups were in charge of establishing a collection: one with emphasis on architecture and history, the other one with touristy entertainment... bit weird

(it seems as though the labyrinth has closed down indefinately... so maybe go and see the Farmacy museum instead?)

  • 10. Fekete Hollo Etterem

15:10 Not as old as it seems, but what a view! The tower at the far end has a bar in it, you can go for hot wine in the winter. In summertime there is a terrace with a view at the lower level, also nice to enjoy a drink while taking in the scenery.

The gate-tower at the far end also has a restaurant, looks lovely, haven't been in, but I do think it's worth a visit, has a discount with the budapest card.

After getting tickets for the night cruise take the tram up to the parliament. With this tramline you will pass the shoes on Danube boulevard. If you are lucky you can get a tour through the parliament ( bring your ID), but just to have a nice closer look at the building is great as well.

  • 23. Museum of Ethnography (Neprajzi Muzeum)
Museum of Ethnography (Neprajzi Muzeum), Budapest, Central Hungary

14:45 Just across the street from the parliament you will find this museum. Big building, once the palace of justice. The building in its own is great, but the exposition is also fantastic, lots to learn about etnographic tradition in Hungary, great outfits, good interactive way to get to know the habits of a country.

After a quick visit, get back to the tram and make your way back to Elisabeth bridge. Get of the tram and cross the bridge.

  • 24. Rudas Baths
    Rudas Baths, Budapest, Central Hungary

  • 27. Hungarikum Bisztro

Day 4: our last day already! After a nice breakfast and checking out, leave your luggage at the hotel and take the metro to Parliament, if you did not succeed in getting a tour yesterday, you might want to get a ticket now and maybe come back later in the day to take the tour.

10:30 From this metro station it is just a quick stroll to the House of Hungarian Art Nouveau. It really is lovely and you do get a discount with the Budapest card, but to be honest: just go to the museum cafe and get a slice of lovely cake and a coffee: you will see just as much

  • 29. Hungarian State Opera House (Magyar Allami Operahaz)
Hungarian State Opera House (Magyar Allami Operahaz), Budapest, Central Hungary

12:15 Stroll through the area and make your way to the beautiful opera building. Just go inside, you cannot miss this! Liszt Ferenc Memorial Museum (Liszt Ferenc Emlekmuzeum), Budapest, Central Hungary

13:45 It's just a small walk from the bookstore to this museum.
You get discount with Budapestcard. You can only obtain info with the Aufdio guide, so if you don't want to pay extra for such a device, bring your own info about Liszt. The museum is small, but lots of lovely items, too bad there isn't some more information about the lfe and work of mr. Liszt.

Now it probably is about time to return to the hotel, pick up your stuff, take the metro back to the bus and head for the airport ( make sure you plan enough time for the bus, it can be a long and bumpy ride!)

Hope you have enjoyed the trip!
